I think it is about the Titanic on its maiden - final voyage and the passengers thereon knowing their fate.

I think this is about a group of inexperienced (virgin) soldiers on their way to a combat zone. They are on a ship and about to land on a beach. The waitress turned a whiter shade of pale when she heard some of their stories and realized they were soldiers headed for a dangerous place & may die.
