Psychedelic Furs: Love My Way Meaning
Song Released: 1982
Love My Way Lyrics
-
It's about accepting your self after years of self hatred and awkwardness. Having the courage to express yourself in the manner that is the truest to your SELF. Take risks with people to find the best.
It means far more than gay acceptance. It's quintessentially Gen. X -
Its a song of hope, a new beginning, and acceptance of one's own way of life. There's no shame or sorrow, just looking forward to perhaps a new relationship, or a life change, with no apologies.
Maybe a little bittersweet, but forging into the future, whatever that may bring. -
It's about the difficulties of being young and gay in the early 1980s, facing a mainstream society that didn't truly accept you while becoming true to yourself.
Richard Butler, the band leader, has acknowledged he wrote these lyrics for the gay crowd. -
"Theres an army on the dance floor, it's a fashion with a gun my love. In a room without a door a kiss is not enough in...
love my way. It's a new road. I follow where my mind goes."
The song is about a guy who is trying to win a girl over who has had too many relationships with the army of jerks in the world and she doesn't know what to do anymore. He is telling her that his way of love will be new to her because he isn't gonna take advantage of her sexually, he follows his mind and his heart (he is genuinely in love with her, not just using her). The other jerks are gonna be jealous of them for being in such a perfect relationship and they'll try to stop them but this guy is saying he won't let that happen because its love in his way.
