    The song itself is about a person helping her lover/best friend through depression. It shows that the person truly loves their friend/lover and would literally walk through hell with them because there is such a strong bond between them.

    "Hands, put your empty hands in mine." This shows the person trying to lift her friend/lover out of depression.
    "Scars, show me all the scars you hide." This means that the person was mentally or physically harming themselves and she wants them to break out of the habit.
    "And the heart, sometimes it's unclear why it's beating." This sounds like it's indicating a reference to suicide, and that her friend/lover has suicidal actions or thoughts.
    "Love, if your wings are broken, please take mine till yours can open too." This shows that although her friend/lover is breaking down bit by bit, she's willing to give her all so that they can get better.
    "I'll be your eyes, till yours can shine, I'll be your arms, I'll be your steady satellite." This means that she's more than supportive to her friend and she'll hold them up no matter what happens between them.
    "Well I'll cry with you on hands and knees cause I..." She will also cry with them because she's trying to make them better and hates to see them depressed.


    My own personal experience that I have with this song is the fact that I'm moving from one part in California, to another part. And I have this best friend, who stayed with me when I found out I was moving 2 hours away from him. He has tried to take my mind off it by talking about different things on the phone. We even hung out one day. But when we were in school, we wouldn't stop supporting each other (Although we were a bit touchy with each other and other people thought we were dating). When I first came in the beginning of the year, I met other friends and we were running around being idiots. Until I met him. He was looking sad in the corner and I invited him to come hang out with us. He declined, but weeks later, he started warming up to us. Now, in the present, he's my best friend out of all my other friends. We were both literally depressed and felt utterly horrible at one time in the school year, but we kept supporting each other and made it through (though I'm even more depressed because I'm moving). I literally love him, and I don't want to leave him. I feel like we're soulmates, and I don't want to be split apart from him. Every time I hear his name, I can't help myself but start smiling and I got so excited when I went to school, just because I would see him. We both have the same intrests, and I can't deny the fact that although I'm too young to be in love, I think I am in love, cause it feels too good to not be true.

    To me, it is about sticking with someone... No matter what. I always think of best friends when I hear this songs. This song is about the people that would do anything for each other. I always think of my sister when I hear it. We are best friends, she is the person I can count on no matter what. And she can count on me. We stand by each other no matter what is going on.

    lets someone you care about know that you are there for them when they are going through a hard time in life! even if the relationship/friendship between the two of you isn't in the best place you'll be there to lean on, no matter what your someone they can count on! in spite of the fact the two of you might never reach that perfect place you'll still be there to walk through the dark days w/them no matter what! If you had someone in your heart they are there forever!

    You can put the personal stuff aside and be there for them, you don't turn your back on them when they need someone, you won't let them go through the hell that life can be alone! everybody needs somebody sometime!

    Never heard of Rachel before but I'm old! luv luv luv this song! perfect to share when you don't have the words to tell someone that no matter what's going on you'll always care and you'll always be someone they can count on to help them through! Sometimes that can make all the difference to someone!

    This makes me cry, after being heartbroken, I pray someone will love me like this, I grew up with my step mother, was always left out, never considered as a family member, even my own dad,
    So I don't know how it feels somebody to love from deep within, can't imagine what its like to special to somebody,
    Jct pray that one day done will make me feel loved and special, jct like the lyrics go

    My sister was diagnosed with cancer in 2016, and went through all the pain and suffering of treatments for it. I cried with her, and shared all the fears and worry that it brought daily. I shared this song with her to let her know that I was always there for her. She lost the battle to cancer on Thanksgiving morning 2019. She was my best friend and there will always be an emptiness that can never be filled in this lifetime. I do have the peace of knowing she was a Christian and we will be together again. This song is special to me because of this. Thank you

    when I hear this, I think of my BFF and lover ((the same person, I'm friends with a guy(THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT)) I have moved before and It sucks. I didn't really know anyone for about a year. then, when I went into middle school, I met him. besides one other guy, all my friends kinda ignore me. he's like the only one I can really have a deep conversation with. I thank him for that.

    I have some really close friends and an amazing lover that mean so much to me, and when I heard this song, it (quite literally) brought tears to my eyes. This song means that through the darkest days of life, the people who are closest to you will always be there. I recently underwent the death of a family member, and my lover came to me and sung this song to me, and I appreciated it so so so much! It helped me get through my dark days. If you have a close friend whom you care about, or are super close to you, never let go of them. Phenomenal job, Rachel!

    This reminds me of a friend I have. They've been through such a hard time, and at times I feel like they've given up and I'm the only one with hope. This song brings me to tears every time I hear it. Such a pretty song.

    This song is about someone not leaving if times get difficult. "Even if we can't find heaven, I'll walk through hell with you" is what really explains it for me. I wish my songs could be even half as good as hers.

    i think its about people who love eachother will stand by eachother such as best friends/lovers when they are going through the hardest things, when i first heard this song i thought about my best friend and i started crying because i love her so much.

    Stand By You is a genuine song that explains that through the hardest times, someone will always be with you, including God. Even if we can't find Heaven, I'll walk through ____ with you means that even if you go to the place down under, that person will stay with you. It just makes me want to cry because it is so powerful and is very hearty. Love you Rachel Platten and your contribution to our society!
