"Georgia on My Mind" is a 1930 song written by Hoagy Carmichael and Stuart Gorrell and first recorded that year. It has often been associated with Ray Charles, a native of the U.S. state of Georgia who recorded it for his 1960 album The Genius Hits the Road.

this was a popular song in georgia long before mr. charles recorded it. as the years went by he added those little side bars he is known for. it later was made the state song of the state of georgia but only mr. charles' rendition. to me the song is about a man in prison in another state, or maybe even georgia. georgia is his woman or for all we know his dog. just kidding . or am i? but that's what he uses to kill his day and his bid.
