Redlight King: Old Man Meaning
Old Man Lyrics
A pair of hard working hands
Everything that I needed
I got it from the old man
With a nine second dream
He drove the Redlight Bandit
And the grease on his hands
Was the way he commanded
And the life he...

This song has the meaning of a father who raced drag cars. The 9 second dream is his goal on a quarter mile race. He is also referring to the pain that you get you can use, like losing a race and souping up your car more just to beat that guy next time. The son also respects his father and realizes that he is becoming him.

this song reminds me of my dad "He didn’t have much A pair of hard working hands" all he had was just that he stated his own home improvment job from nothing just his bare hands and "Everything that I needed I got it from the old man" i am just like him hard working love working with my hands cause thats what im good with With a nine second dream "He drove the Redlight Bandit And the grease on his hands" when he was my age he drove a pontiac firebird and put thousands of dollars into that car to go fast. he rules with his fist that Was the way he commanded
And the life he demanded "It kept us all in a struggle When he ruled with his fist It kept us all out of trouble" he's a great man -
Pretty much to sum it up like what I said before... He has now become like his dad... Everything his dad taught him, he is showing his kids and living the lifestyle he once did as a child. He's very intelligent and this song touches the heart<3

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway
-
his dad was some type of a race car driver ... they struggled because of the lifestyle .. he's followed in his father's footsteps apparently.

The beat almost sounds like Kenny Wayne Shephard, Blue on Black, I love this song it's deep. He's singing about his dad being his guidance throughout his childhood and adulthood. He sings about his dads pain and struggles in raising him and his brothers/sisters. Sounds like his dad was lonely and something happpened with his mom..but idk?? He's following in his dads foot steps and wants his dad that passed away to understand what he feels for him that he's thanking him for the lessons learned and that he misses him and loves him very much. When he sings about ashes and dust sounds like his dad died racing and doing what he loves to do. Or his dad suffered from being in a previous accident, but never gave up his dreams. That's how he brought the money in to support him and the family or to make the family grow closer together.
