Regina Spektor: Hero Meaning
Hero Lyrics
He never ever saw it coming at all
He never ever saw it coming at all
It's al-right, it's al-right, it's al-right, it's al-right
It's al-right, it's al-right, it's al-right
Hey, open wide here...
-
I think the song is about someone who is deeply upset (he never ever saw it coming at all) they didn't expect this to happen, (it's alright, no ones got it all) she repeatedly sings this line as if trying to reconcile or just convince them self that they're ok and everything fine. It's ok that you're hurt because nobody has everything. No one can have it all. The song is about a mistake someone has made and how they are in still some sort of denial that they don't need help. They are the hero of their own life's story and they don't need to be saved by anyone. (I'm the hero of the story don't need to be saved). However, I think that's exactly what they need.
Lovely song though. I feel like I can relate in so many ways. Xx -
This could be describing 2 sides of the story depending on how you see it. The man who got cheated on, or the woman tho cheated on the man.
The first line 'He never saw it coming at all' describes how events happened and now they have broken up.
'It's alright' He tries to reconcile.
'Hey, open wide here comes original sin' He thinks back of how he thought he or she was a bad ass always trying to show off to others.
Again he tries to reconcile ' No one's got it all'
'Power to the people we don't want it we want pleasure." He had the power to keep her but all he wanted was pleasure.
'T.v Rape, he's at home with nothing to do basically.
'Meetings, he is at work but his mind isn't there.
He finally says it, that they both tried to stay faithful but one of them cheated.
'I'm the hero of this story I don't need to be saved.' They can't accept that this could happen to one of them, they think that they were supposed to be the 'hero' of the story. -
I believe this is about how society gives us so many freedoms and yet we don't use them, (were going to these meetings, but were not doing any meeting) but instead we waste our time doing things that don't matter at all; such as spending our days in front of the television ( and the tv tries to rape us and I guess that they're succeeding) and not taking any interest in the matters of the world. To her this is an extreme crime to squander our privileges in place of something that isn't good for us (open wide here comes original sin) since she understands while the world is oblivious she sings " I'm the hero, I dint need to be saved.."
