Ricky Nelson: Palace Guard Meaning
Song Released: 1973
Palace Guard Lyrics
-
Devastating lyrics about marriage; his, specifically. A raven represents death and mourning.
That is a really forceful, beautiful opening to describe his wife's failure as he sees it. Always thought this song had to leave a mark.
Her childhood dreams refer to her early crush on Rick (via his tv show). He is tired of her practiced claims of true love for him, with other guys on the inside of their marriage.
Jealous fights make him run for the door. This is Rick's best song along with Garden Party.
I have Kristin's beautiful coffee table book of her art and family memories. Tough to know that so much pain coursed through this marriage. Both, talented artists.
