You Wear It Well Lyrics

I had nothing to do on this hot afternoon
But to settle down and write you a line
I've been meaning to phone you but from Minnesota
Hell it's been a very long time
You wear it well
A little old fashioned but that's all right
Well I suppose...

A lonely guy writing to his lost love became a huge success for Rod Stewart. However, in the first stanza he states: "I got nothing to do on this hot afternoon but sit down and write you a line." But then at the end of the song he wrote: "My coffee is getting cold, and I am being told I have to get back to work." So what is the real story??? Is he just remimeniscing on his past love, or is he goofing off from work? Rod does care, nor does his fans who obviously adore the song. Maybe one day if I meet Rod I will ask him to explain the dichotomy.
