Saves The Day: This Is Not An Exit Meaning
This Is Not An Exit Lyrics
And we still stand knee deep in the flow,
the undertow will grab our heels and won't let go.
And while we hold, our legs quivering,
the water rises now to our teeth...

This song is about the transition from life to death with ease. After the tension of the water rising to the point of no return, your body is equipped to die like it is to live. As you look forward and realize it’s all done and you’re greeted and well received, you take your bow, and are proud of your life you’ve lived. There’s absolutely nothing to fear.

I see it being about living life and accepting your life and death for the beauty that it is

This song is about a struggling relationship. "Tonight will be the night that we begin to ease the plugs out of the dam" A damn clogs up a flowing stream/creek, and he is implying that tonight will be the night that they break the dam and let the relationship flow. When he says the undertow will grab our heels and won't let go, he means that letting the relationship flow could be hard but they can hold on. With their legs quivering the water raised to their teeth and they just let go meaning they just can't hold this relationship any longer.
Then he goes on saying gills open up and they're sailing belly up to the clouds, evolving from how hard it is to break a relationship and breathing in the air is the only thing they have. and if they hook sets in they will rip it out and lick the blood off with their tongues which means they won't go back to each other again they know better.
"Despair could ravage you if you turn your head around to look down the path that's lead you here, cause what can you change?" means hopelessness can damage you if you look down the path of life because what can you change, what happened has already happened and your just a vessel in the sea of life, it's to hard to turn back just like its to hard to swim against the current. And when life is over the curtain falls and you take a bow and show your teeth because you know whatever happened in your life, you lived life well. -
I think this song is about dying. What you think about while you are dying...From being upset to accepting it. Im probably wrong but someone else has to interpret it too.
