Lights of Cincinnati Lyrics
-
A song of painful separation from a loved one. "Rocking chair" implies the person could be an older person - a mother or a grandmother. The singer is off to start a new life of his own and feels the reluctance and pain of separation. The image of the one left behind watching till the plane is out of sight conveys the difficulty of the process of letting go. Overall the song has a haunting sense of nostalgia and yearning and is beautifully sung by Scott Walker.
