Smash Mouth: The Fonz Meaning
The Fonz Lyrics
And wear them for a day
Learn to talk like you do
And say what I see
I'd talk like I knew something
That everyone wanted to hear
But you're the fonz
The definition of icy
The measure of what's up
You could...

I've been listening to this song since I was 9 years old. Even as a 9 year old, I knew who the Fonz was because of reruns of Happy Days. I knew it was a song from the perspective of the unpopular person wanting to be like the Fonz. It's obviously not supposed to be about the real Fonzerelli character "The Fonz" just represents a popular person. The singer does the same things the Fonz does but still doesn't get any positive feedback. In the end they both kill themselves and it seems like no one is perfect no matter what we think so don't assume. Also, it's 2018 and I'm just feeling reflective of my childhood. That's why I'm randomly commenting on a 20 year old song. <3

The Fonz is another great song which has a deep message also closely related to fads and popularity as a lot of smash mouth songs do, (Shoes n' hats, Walkin on the sun, the in set, seventh grade dance to name a few) Basically the song is saying that popular people are elevated in society to much for little reason.
