Song Released: 1968
Magic Carpet Ride Lyrics
-
Magic Carpet Ride is about Ride’n Harley Davidsons! In The Wind!! Leaving a commune lifestyle...”you don’t know what we can find… why don’t you come with me little girl on a magic carpet ride” It’s from the Movie Easy Rider!! I Know I Remember It!! Soft Tail Harley’s Ride Like Magic Carpets!
John Kay hated drugs!! that’s why he wrote “God Damn The Pusher Man”…
my 2¢✨ -
I had a narcissist, pathological liar as a boyfriend once, who gave me this bullcrap story about the song having a secret fraternity meaning. Like so much of the lies he told, this was just another one.

Read the WSJ article, it has NOTHING to do with drugs.

Interpretation above is all wrong.

The great old band STEPPENWOLF with songs like ''Born To Be Wild'',where after running out of NATURE'S room to ROAM, still there was[is] a hunger and need to dream further with a song that was[is] preparing us in the mindset of a westernized politician, explorer, evangelist, etc., or even a secret agent used as a ''snoop'' Scooby Scooby Doo ''Dog Astronaut'' that went off course on his mission that splashed down somewhere on the sands and shores of THE EAST, finding some ''thugs'' that helped him to continue traveling on his mission to find his way back home. All the while almost getting stoned, but did get high on ARABIAN HASHISH into amazingly finding the famous ''ALLADIN'S LAMP'' to wish in making all kinds of deals that he became madly in love with throughout the MIDDLE EAST and then asking JENNIE to go on a ''MAGIC CARPET RIDE'' that was prepared for him, but only after rubbing Alladin's tummy, and to be approved only by the SULTAN to take little JENNIE away for a ride to guide him magically towards finding his way back home to the Wild Wild West that ran out of room.

It's about getting high. It's really that simple. They got high, and had sex. End of story.
