Sugarland: Stay Meaning
Stay Lyrics
And I've been laying here praying, praying she won't call
It's just another call from home
And you'll get it and be gone
And I'll be crying
And I'll be begging you, baby
Beg you not...

#1 top rated interpretation:Believe me, until you have been in the situation it is hard to judge. I think Jennifer Nettles took a huge risk at writing from the "other womans" perspective. Being in a very similar situation it is heartwrenching, what if you fell in love with someone who was already involved with someone else? What if you met the person you have been searching for but they have already committed themselves to the other person? I never thought I would be the other woman but I am, and I feel the way that Jennifer describes in the song, I feel used and I wish he could stay but I know at the end of the day he goes back to her and I am left with nothing. Regardless if it is right or wrong the other woman has a right to feel, a right to be hurt, because she was lead on too. There isnt just one victim in these situations, but that is just my interperation.

#2 top rated interpretation:I agree with the other anomymously this song is terrible. #3 top rated interpretation:I can't believe the posts I'm reading! You people are sympathizing with a home-wrecker??? I hate this song more than any I've ever heard. He and the home wrecker should be severely punished for this abomination of justice and moral law. What has this world come to that we have to listen to garbage like this on the radio? My kids hear this filth and think cheating on your spouse is okay.

I hate it when a song describes your feelings at that moment it just makes it worse every time you hear it...!!so I dated this guy for the summer and I guess that It was just a summer love for him but for me I wanted him to stay forever with me... he got me a promise ring and everything cause I was only 15.. but he took it back after everything he was my first kiss and we did everything together and I mean everything!!if only he could have stayed a little longer.. he was the first actual heartbreak... I cried for three weeks after that and nothing made anything better.... then he moved on and I moved on and found someone so much better... he gave me whatever I wanted we are still together and getting married next year we have been together I was a junior and now its been 10 years.. guess I didn't want him stay!!

the man has an addiction problem. that is his first and only love. as much as he tries to leave it/her he can't and doesn't want to. she realizes this and lets him go.
-
I think that people fall in love and it doesnt come easy to let someone go, but they should get props for actually doing it. No i dont not think this is a good song at all, but you have to look at everyones situation first. It just as wrong to the husband that is cheating, and the girl that is being the 'other woman'. They are both in the wrong, equally.

I am 21 years old. I have been in the same situation for the past two years. The first year of which I was told a different story from the man I am inlove with. Women do not understand that we are led on. The world we live in today you never know who your going to bed with at the end of the night.Anyways, thankfully I have never went all the way with him, but unfortunately, still very attached. What makes it worse, is we work together 4 days a week. I get jealous of him looking at girls at work along with the fact that he is still with the other woman. Recently though our relationship has been inactive for a year and I am currently dating someone else. But somehow it does not seem to suffice me. I ve tried and I seem to come back to him in my mind. Likewise, he tells me the same things. He gets jealous when my bf comes into my workplace and will have to walk away so he doesnt have to see him. I can speak for those who are in my situation. That I feel you and that we shouldnt be judged until we know and dont look stop the sharade. If they are man enough they will leave the other woman. Even though he is the only one that can make me cheat on bf.I will never do it. Feedback!!!!

This song is written by a betrayed woman but from the point of view of the other woman. The majority of the song describe what it would feel like to be the OW. I think that the song switches focus from the OW back to herself half way through. She realizes that she can't live like that. The part about getting up off her knees-she the betrayed-is not going to beg him to stop any more. I think she is saying that he should stay in the OW's bed. It makes sense to me because Ms. Nettle was betrayed and divorced. I think that is why she becomes so emotional toward the end of the song. I am in awe of her. I am three months from learning of my husband's A. I can only imagine how cathartic it is for her. I know it is for me when I hear it. Just my thoughts.

This song is definetly about the homewrecker!!!! My mom and dad were married almost twenty years. He had this young blonde secretary who had a son and had been divorced 3 times. My dad cheated for 5 years on my mom. I can't tell you how hard this is on the kids. My family was RIPPED APART by this HOME WRECKER!!!
-
Its only the mans fault? Oh no, maybe in the beginning someone doesnt know the other is married. But, when they find out they should walk away. When you know and you stay anyway, you are worse than the cheating spouse. I wish that people would realize that if they are married and are sleeping with you, you are not the first. So yeh...Homewrecker is the proper word!
-
Okay, to the people who think others are sympathyzing for the so called "homewrecker", I think the people aren't exactly sympathyzing for her, as they are understanding how she feels. To me, in this song, I see that the married man and/or undecided man IS the bad guy in all this. He's the one who is married and/or undecided on who he wants to be with. &I think at the end of the song, the woman realizes what she's doing is wrong and isn't changing anything between the man and his wife/spouse. So please, just hear people out! Thanks!

Well it sucks I do say... I'm living it right now...
it hurts to love someone soooo much but its like you have to live a second life with them. I'd much rather it be out in the open and show our feelings with out being worried of the consequences.
i've been in a relationship with a man for a little over a year now, and he's married. yes I know... He's MARRIED. The thing is. before he and i, I was in a terrible relationship. Then it led to divorce... He's previously married and divorced himself and the one he is in now is soon to be over. Its really hard on us because we can't speak of our relationship because it will start a lot of problems with his fight for custody. His wife does her own thing and they don't even speak. The only thing they want each other around for is the kids. He is so romantic, and loving and caring... He's older by 10 years, so were not tooo close in age. That is what I really want though. Someone older who has the understanding of how things should go and that is mature. every day I see him I want to just run into his arms, but we can't even acknowledge one another unless its formal or work related... I really love him and want to be with him, but our current situation prevents Everything from taking place. we were on the phone the other day and I asked him why don't we spend more time together... baby,,, I look at it this way.. what time permits,,, I take that opportunity to be with you... make love to you and focus totally on you. I can't do that every day. I can't show my true feelings for you and it hurts... Hell I don't know I'm so lost right now at what to do... That's life for ya..... Help lol -
This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway
-
She's asking him why don't he stay with her. The parts about him living the other woman she's talking about the future.
-
Mine is not a interpretation but a reality that I lived for 27 years. We had a son that we planned who is now 20 years old and a grand son who is 4 years old. I loved this man more then I loved myself, all I could see is that I loved him and when I found out I had to share him I did not care. The day came when I no longer could see him leave again and go back to her. I finally got the strength to get up off my knees. So I decided to let him go on July 11,2007. I heard the song Stay about a month later. It was as if it was written about me. For all you people who are in love with a married person, get up off your knees and let them go don't waste your time. They love you but they love them more.
Not Sharing Any more, Thank You Sugarland. -
This song is about "the other women" In the first part of the song she sings about how she wants him to "stay" with her stay a little longer, but by the end of the song she's so tierd and hurt that she's telling him, When your wife asks you not to leave, just stay, Stay there with her because coming back to me is killing me inside.

We have all been hurt, we’ve all cried, we’ve all hit rock bottom at some point in a relationship.
In her case, she sings of being “the other woman†and tired of the pain her situation brings.
