Sylvan Esso: Die Young Meaning
Song Released: 2017
Die Young Lyrics
-
I saw Sylvan Esso live at a festival recently. Die Young was prefaced by Amelia saying she wrote it about her husband. She was suicidal and in pain, and he made life worth living. So "now I gotta wait for you" is meant to say, I won't go before you do. It's a beautiful song with so much emotion and love in it.
-
I believe that she was lonely and suicidal before she met her partner in life. They made a beautiful life together, and it gave her a reason to live. Her partner was killed in a car accident, and now she has to wait around, and try the best that she can to live out the rest of her life, so at the end of it, she can be reunited with her partner.
I can relate to this song. My husband was killed in an 18-wheeler accident on April 18th, 2012. He was 35. I was supposed to be with him that day, but I had to stay behind to get our kids off to school. It's hard going on without him, but I have to live for my kids. -
Amelia Meath is a depressive.
She planned to escape by killing herself until she met Nick Sanborn.
The song is a halfhearted compliant about that fact and details her observations of herself and Nick and what they have created.
