Hey,
Native Swahili speaker from Kenya.
This song mixes a few different languages but I will just contribute on the Swahili words (or rather the words I recognize as “Swahili”)
Aisha (0:05) = a common female name here and throughout the African continent (I initially thought he said “Maisha” which means “life”)
Yeye (0:11) = pronoun for her/ him (but the lyrics separate the syllables “ye ye” so it might be a different language - however, it might be rehiring to Aisha (her - yeye)
Fisi (0:18) = hyena (though I doubt this was a a Swahili word and probably means something else in a different language)
Ndoto Peponi (0:23) = Paradise Dream
Meno (0:27) = teeth (but obviously it was a different language in the song)
Kalia (0:32) = sit on
Machozi (0:49) = tears (crying)
Also, I think it’s worth noting that the Artist (Alex Boyé) is British-American (so accent and pronunciation may be a bit different to what I’m used to). Side note… there’s a lot of misinformed and misguided people out there throwing around the expression “cultural appropriation” everywhere… this rendition is absolutely brilliant (including the instrumentals) regardless of whether the artists are from. And the fact that they managed to mix our different languages together so well is amazing ! Music does not belong to one country, continent, race etc
