The Ting Tings: That's Not My Name Meaning
That's Not My Name Lyrics
It's a difficulty and i'm biting on my tongue and uh
I keep stalling and keeping me together
People around gotta find something to say now
Holding back everyday the same
Don't wanna be a loner
Listen...

A feminist song a girl is annoyed that people are calling her different things and that they are calling her 'darling and 'bird' obviously not nice things to be called as it undermines woman
-
I don't know all the lyrics by heart, but growing up, I've heard this song over and over again. Then, I thought it was some chick being sassy and just randomly saying "that's not my name" as a sad way of "sassing off". I dunno. Kid thoughts, right?
But now, I would say that, like the others have said, she's tired of people not knowing her name. I'm afraid even after this hit song people still don't know her name even many years later. Maybe she's tired of being called "that one chick in that one band" instead of her actual name. -
It is about someone tired of not being noticed, tired of people forgetting her name.
-
I think she is fed up with being unnoticed, she's the one who is left against the wall, ignored because she's quiet, however she wants people to make more of an effort to get to know who she is and actually care to leaen about her as a person,
The name is a very important thing to us and having it constantly forgotten is unflattering to say the least. -
This song symbolizes how people always think they know celebrities, whether it's based on something in a magazine or an internet tabloid; the lyrics suggest that people don't know anything about her or other famous people in general, not even the vital information like her name hence "that's not my name" in the lyrics and even the song title. The singer isn't saying that people really don't know her name, however.
