The Turtles: Happy Together Meaning
Song Released: 1967
Happy Together Lyrics
-
IMAGINE THIS-
What if it’s not about unrequited love...what if it’s something else? What if it can’t be explained by some kind of definition or written in a textbook.
What if the story was started, but the authors were too afraid to admit to each other that their personal stories were very much alike. What if they put their imaginations on pause and focused on their truths?
Is the story truly over, or is the book still being written?
-
The song is a fantasy about unrequited love.
The lyrics start
IMAGINE me and you, I do.
.
.
.
IMAGINE how the world could be,
Everything he talks about is how he IMAGINES things could be, not how they really are.
According to the co-writer Gary Bonner, the song is indeed about unrequited love. It is a depressed fantasy about a guy who loves a girl but she doesn't love him back. -
Me and you, and you and me no matter how they tossed the dice it had to be the only one for me is you and you for me
-
It's a straightforward song about a couple in love, and the guy's telling how he can't imagine being with anyone else.
