The Verve - Sonnet Meaning
Song Released: 1998
Sonnet Lyrics
faded,I'm sure
but love seems to stick in her veins, you know
Yes,there's love if you want it
Don't sound like no sonnet
My lord
Yes,there's love if you want it
don't sound like no...

This is really one of the greatest songs ever. It can last a 1000 years and still be awesome...mindblowing lyrics, masterpiece

I think its about Richards love to heroin. At that time. He knows its could end with death (heaven).

I think it's about realising one loves a person when it's already too late, the other one already lost faith in love . Not about a passionate love but a deep friendship between two friends. Attracting and repelling. Their on the crosspoint of becoming soul lovers or (soul) haters. For me more about friends/brothers then passion, but a third person is maybe indirectly the instigator.

I recon it could be about his dad. he died when he was very young and I bet it shaped him as a writer. Grief can be very powerful and can transend your youth and adult ages. You can find yourself wondering through life with little concern about this life or the next where your father lives and long to be by his side. I think he was 10 or 11 when his dad died so quite a difficult time for a young lad to loose his dad.

It's clearly about Richard's heroin addiction. Great song.
