Valerie Lyrics
And I look across the water
And I think of all the things
What you doing?
And in my head I paint a picture
Since I've come home
Well, my body's been a mess
And I mess your gentle hair
And the way you...

#1 top rated interpretation:I think the song is about two girls , one who is gay and one who is on the fence ! It says it all in " why don't you come on over , stop makeing a fool out of me " ! I'm thinking it might have been a one night stand ? Now she wants to hook back up ?

#2 top rated interpretation:This song it's a cover assheads. Originally from The Zutons. Was one of her favorite British bands.

#3 top rated interpretation:I think it's her alter ego. She's talking to herself when she turns into a junkie vs how she is when she's sober.
-
i think its a girl who messed up her relationship. She wants her man back. He is playing with her feelings way to much. And she wants him to stop. "Stop making a fool out of me".

I m a french girl my n is Valerie. This song really touch me even if anybody wondering about what i m doing except myself.
I think she's talking to a friend of her. Wondering what's she doing right now. where life is leading her. She s thinking about her
It doesn't mean that itsn't reflecting her own life and troubles.
Only her really knows.
-
I think the Amy Winehouse version of 'Valerie' is about her losing touch with an best friend a while ago and frequently wondering what happened to her friend ever since they departed. I can totally relate to her as I lost touch with the friends I had when I was younger after I moved away and I sometimes wonder how they are doing.
-
The song was written by the Zutons. The song's title and theme refer to an American friend of the lead singer who was in trouble for driving under the influence. The band's drummer, Sean Payne, called it a "musical postcard to her, saying he's having a hard time and can she come over and see him.
-
Soooooo, she wasn't the original writer or the first to record this song. SO pretty much none of these statements work!
-
if this song is by amy, her boyfriend went to jail, and she spiraled, i think valerie is her alter ego also because she got sober a few times and the struggle was insane, her through the fame documentary is on netflix and a lot of the lyrics make sense now.
-
I interpreted this as a person who is calling an old friend who she hasn't seen in a long while. Much time has passed and many things have changed. She occaisionly thinks of her old friend and wonders what she's up to.The line in her song, "since I've come home my bodys been a mess"I think, refers that she doesn't look the same as she once did.She calls her friend, and wants to know whats been happening in her life, been in trouble?, changed your hair color?, your job, kids, life keeping you busy? What does she shop for nowadays. Are you still as ditzy as you once were, ect ect. She wants to reconnect with an old friend.
-
I think she is mentioning her mom. Jail does not mean being locked up but the feeling her mom had in a situation in her life. I am just taking a wild guess.
-
Valerie is her when she's on drugs, a different person.
-
Drugs are personified into "Valerie"
-
I think the song Valerie represents when a person is distant from their loved ones. It makes the heart grow fonder, what I admire about the lyrics is that the very description of images painted from Amy's thoughts and perhaps even her experiences is expressed through this song.
Though there are many meanings and definitions for 'Valerie' I admire her acapella version because it brings out the best in her voice, I to sing it every now and then.
Thank you Amy Winehouse for sharing your talents with the rest of us, you will always be remembered through your songs. -
This song is about a girl named valerie that amy winehouse misses and she wants to get back with. When I hear this song I think of a broken love story and two broken hearts.

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway
-
I believe the song is about missing an ex deeply and wondering how they are doing. Like how it names things about wondering if she went to jail or simply changed her hair color.
