Tom Petty: I Won't Back Down Meaning
Song Released: 1989

I Won't Back Down Lyrics
No, I won’t back down
You could stand me up at the gates of hell
But I won’t back down
Gonna stand my ground,
won’t be turned around
And I’ll keep this world from draggin’ me down
Gonna stand my ground
and I...

This song to me,takes great determination, and honestly, for some, this song is life changing

Always R.I.P TOM PETTY. A song that I think is about a Positive Individual Believer, who isn't giving into this ''occultish'' demonic controlled world that always wants to drag You down to It's Hell. In anotherwords I think TOM PETTY might be saying with this song ''I Wont Back Down'' is that He isn't backing down in anyway to Fall[back] again into the very Hellish situation that He might have fallen into, with all the Bullshit lies of the world and all that, that HE GOT HIMSELF OUT OF. Where one knows how it feels to be in Hell. And where now He doesn't want to Fall back into It again. But instead only to RISE UP IN THE SPIRIT OF GOD"S STRENGTH TO LIVE OUT THE REST OF HIS LIFE IN PEACE.

Never give up. You can be looking into the soul of Satan, but stick to what you believe in, no matter what happens.

I like this song. Whenever I hear it, I think of Seto Kaiba from the anime Yu-Gi-Oh because it fits him perfectly. In other words, he never backs down from anything, specifically a duel.
Well, I know what’s right
I got just one life
In a world that keeps on pushin’ me around
But I’ll stand my ground and I won’t back down
These lines show that the guy is tough and won't be pushed around, and he knows what's right and that he has only one life to live. The line "I'll stand my ground" means that he will stand his ground against anything bad and anyone evil, and will never back down.
Kudos to Tom for writing this inspiring and philosophical song. :)
