Tonic: You Wanted More Meaning
You Wanted More Lyrics
Love Is Bold
You Will Always
Do What You Are Told
Love Is Hard
Love Is Strong
You Will Never Say That You Were Wrong
I Don't Know When I Got Bitter
But Love Is Surely Better When It's Gone
(Chorus)
'Cause You Wanted...
-
I grew up in a very dysfunctional household. My Mother(Robin) was a junkie and Dad was always working,he had to.
It was me, my younger brother Josh and my older brother Danny (disabled) that had to deal with the craziness that Robin put us through. By the time I was 20 I had to get away from it all.
This song describes exactly how I felt towards my mom's shortcomings and crazy expectations of us children.
I moved away and we (Robin and I) didn't talk for about 5yrs. We eventually buried the hatchet before I was married but this song reminds me of the erosion of trust and love between junkie mother and trapped son. -
Its about someone who probably doesn't normally make commitments but has tried. This person is feeling smothered or "held down". The song is admitting they aren't ready for a relationship for "a love that isn't there". They prefer not to be committed "I dont know when I got bitter but love is surely better when its gone" This person can't live up to what is expected out of a good partner (you wanted more, more than i could give... a life that i can't live), so they are getting out!
