If You Could Only See Lyrics
Then maybe you would understand
Why I feel this way about our love
And what I must do
If you could only see how blue her eyes can be when she says
When she says she loves me
Well you got your...

#1 top rated interpretation:This is a song the singer wrote to his Mother. The singer fell in love with a girl and ended up marrying her. His mom completely disowned him because she didnt like the girl. The singer is saying to his mom basically, if you could see how we love each other, you would understand why i did what i did

To me I envision a man who is unhappy in his current relationship, and who at the same time is still on good terms with an ex, like on a “friendship” level. Maybe he met his current girlfriend at some point after being apart from the ex for a while, long enough to be able to feel strong feelings for someone else to the extent that he is willing to commit to a relationship with said new person, but not quite long enough for the feelings or even the residual leftover feelings for the ex to have fully subsided. Now that he has been with this new person and has not been happy for some time, he is expressing to his current girlfriend that he’s unhappy and is longing for the love that he experienced with his ex. This ex may even already be on the brink of becoming a side chick. Like they’re just “friends” to the girlfriend, but behind her back the way they talk and behave towards each other may be stepping over the line and he’s trying to make it official again. Idk tho. The official meaning was confirmed to be about his mom not approving of a woman he was with. So yeah

This was a phone conversation with his mother trying to talk him out of marrying someone.

Married man telling his paramour that his wife still deeply loves him and it affects him how sad/blue it his wife is over the state of affairs.
-
I see a man trying to justify wanting a woman he cant have, so he sings about if u could only see how beautiful she is to him.
-
I believe he sings about a girl that is married and she tells him she loves him, but she can't leave where she's at. She can't see him as often as he would like. His friends don't approve, probably tell him he's a fool, but he tries to convince them she's worth the wait.

This song fits my relationship now. I am getting married to a man that my parents can't stand. At one point his parents hated. me. His parents finally expected me. However my dad hasn't. come around yet. My mother has finally. accepted. us being together. Yet it seems the world is tryin. to keep us a part. There has been ppl who were so called friends that pulled some dumb crap and we ened up not being. allowed. around each other but we are together anyway. with his parents blessing, We have been on n off since. i was 13yrs old i am 31 almost 32. Yep 18 almost 19yrs. We are just getting ready to tie the knot next summer 2015. We r still in love. I love him just as much now as i did back then. If not more. Infact this is going to be our wedding song. He said this was our song back then n it still is.

I believe when he says say you love but you don't, give me love but you won't could be refering to an unhappy current relationship. these lines are followed by If you could only see the way SHE loves me maybe you would understand why I feel this way...I am in a relationship with someone who says she loves me but treats me like crap. talk is cheap!!! I also have another women who's eyes are so blue when she says she loves me...guess which way I'm going!!! I'll take the sweet girl with the honest true blue eyes who shows that she loves me because my current relationship is "reaching out for something that is just not there".

well the music video seems to portray what is said of this guy in love with a girl and the world parent or whatever oppose for whatever reason. The video portrays a guy on the other side of a wall like in an interogation room. perhaps shes a minor and its correct to assume ones parents oppose their love. But he breaks the glass grabs her and the two move on together.
I always thought it was a guy who is on one hand speaking to a still existing love/wife who cuts him down and treats him baddly, who speaks of love but doesnt give it and on the other hand he speaks to this woman of a new love he has found that is true and he must move on with her. -
This song is about the narrator loving a girl so much that he would do anything for her. Unfortunately everyone else opposes her. But he is trying to tell them that if they could see what he sees, if they knew what he knows, then they would understand why he must be with her no matter the cost. This is literally the same situation I myself am in with a girl right now. This song means so much right now. No one else can possibly understand one's love for another except for he/she who is in love. I believe he is telling whoever is listening, that nothing will keep him from her. I believe this because it is the same feeling I have with my real life situation.

I think it's about , someone tell n someone , that they can't feel love ,,,,,cos if they could , they would understand that he is in love with her and they need to let him go , .. who he's telling, just won't umm allow them to be together .......

Well I feel like he loves this girl but theres some complications because the rest of the world (friends or family what not) do Ot what them note ther because they only see half the stor maybe she can seem like she dosent love him at times but when it gets down to the main point she really does. And he won't the "world" tell him not to be with her.
My close friend told me to look this song up... I don't know how he meant it though so yea. (: -
He married a goyim?

Really..? I thought it was about a blind guy :)

This was truly about his families concern for his gf at the time fearing that she wouldn't be able to handle his lifestyle as rockstar. Well turns out she ended up leaving him anyway for that same reason. He actually actually explained the story before playing the actual song at one of there shows. He said ended saying "well I guess my mom right, fuck her!" and proceeded to play song to a roaring crowd.

Back in 1997 this song had just come out when my now husband and I had just met and fallen in love and everybody thought we were crazy. It really fit and has been "our" song ever since... even though we've now been married for 13 years and everybody completely approves now... lol... I always wondered if the song was meant more as a guy who is in a relationship but trying to get out of it because he's in love with somebody else. But over the years, I've heard several people say it was written to his mom because she didn't approve of his gf.
