Tool: Disposition Meaning
Disposition Lyrics
mention this to me
watch the weather change
watch the weather change
watch the weather change
watch the weather
change
mention this to me
mention something
mention anything
mention this to me
watch the weather...
-
I noticed (after reading a few previous entries) that the words "mention something, mention anything" aren't addressed. I could see this portion of the song (when coupled with the longing emotion in Maynard's voice) as his pleading for something to change in this world. For something to affect him and make him feel alive. Mention it to him, let him feel alive.

Kate is almost right
I think that this is about how Maynard and people like him that are bored....
this song directly follows Lateralus which is about pushing the limits, going to the edge....and Maynard is saying that he is bored that nobody is doing that,(pushing the edge) hence "mention this to me, mention something, mention ANYTHING" and "watch the weather change" (which doesn't happen very fast) so therefore he is bored with lackadaisical people that stay within the boundaries -
This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

I think the song is about the chaos that will unfold in the future, he says "metion this to me" "watch the weather change" as in don't say I didn't warn you, watch the weather change and remind me that I told you that it would. Its really sad and scary at the same time because he sings it in a way that's not really getting the whole "haha I told you so" feeling out of him, that's not the point he's trying to get across. He's going to be dissapointed when "it" happens as well
-
Umm.. I kind of agree with kate here, there is a strong feeling of 'time passing by' in the way he interprets the lyrics.
i also have a parallel view; I always pictured this as an expressed desire to hear something from the person you love, something so desperately needed that it could ultimately 'change weather', emphasizing the great effect those few words might have on you.
great song, great mood. -
I agree with the first comment. I definitely think it is about the interconnectedness and power of perception; weather, people, the entire physical realm are all reflections of our soul. If you're feeling sunny, so will your environment.
-
I have always seen this as Tool's version of a love song. The weather is symbolic of your mood (or disposition). Rainy is sadness, sunny is happiness etc. Just the mere mention presence of this person has the ability to alter his mood. He is admitting this persons affect on him. This is similar to APC's "Stranger" where he is formulating denials of your affect on me.
