Tool: Jerk Off Meaning
Jerk Off Lyrics
-
1TOP RATED
#1 top rated interpretation:I think this song is about how sickening it is to see some of the most vile criminals get away with what they've done, while others who commit minor offenses can get put away. The feeling that one needs to do something, "maybe I should just play god and shoot you myself." It is also about how society teaches us that there is right and wrong, and that if you commit crimes, you will be punished, however some of the worst criminals get away, and this contradicts that notion.

I think it's about suicide. Not from a depressed sense but from an overwhelming guilt. I think he's singing to himself (as a character).
-
Ok not sure just sounds like something anyone would say, anyone about an abuser that keeps getting away with it.
-
I am 100 percent sure it is about a certant step dad that he knows and hates not his but one of a person he loves very much; ) ...
-
The protagonist is pissed off about being in withdrawal and is pissed off about people still doing the drug he quit (ex:OPIATE withdrawal.)
-
Maynard thinks that someone is being an asshole and no one cares so he has to care.
-
Im not 100% sure but I think this is written to his step dad who used to abuse him. The lyrics would fit into that context
Someone told me once
that there's a right and wrong,
punishment would come to those
who dare to cross the line.
(for those who do horrible things dererve a punishment)
But it must not be true
for jerk-offs just just like you.
Maybe it takes longer to catch a total asshole.
but I'm tired of waiting.
(The punishment hasnt come yet and he's getting teird of waiting for there karma to destroy them)
Someone told me once
that there's a right and wrong,
punishment would come to those
who dare to cross the line.
(for those who do horrible things dererve a punishment)
But it must not be true
for jerk-offs just just like you.
(the punishment hasnt come yet, so he's saying its not true becuase wheres your punishment)
Maybe it's just bullshit and I should play GOD,
and shoot you myself.
Because I'm tired of waiting.
(maybe he should do what "god" did not do)
Consequences dictate
our course of action
and it doesn't matter what's right.
It's only wrong if you get caught.
(explaining the persons matter of thinking, 'what they do isn't wrong till they get in trouble for it'
If consequences dictate
my course of action
I should play GOD
and shoot you myself.
I'm very tired of waiting.
(his course of action would be to just kill you and ignore yours) -
I agree with AFIfan, i also think it means people should have integrity to do what is right even if no one is watching, but yes he is angry about people who get away with things that are wrong or incredibly evil with a smile on their faces.
