TWICE: TT Meaning
-
In case you haven't figured it out by now, TWICE's songs illustrate the growing process of love from the fierce, freethinking teenage liberty of "Like Ooh Aah" to the blossoming of a teenage crush of "TT" to the quest for understanding of "What Is Love?", to the self assurance and confidence lyrics of "More and More". TWICE illustrates all the stages of love from wanting to experience the emotion to trying to understand what it is and then to accepting it for what it is and taking what you want.
TT is one of the first stages,
The song opens with the lyrics "I can't even do this, I'm in an awkward situation, I just stare and say ba-ba-ba-baby" illustrating those churning emotions that are invoked in us when we look at someone we like and all we can do is stare.
"Everyday, I only imagine without asking, I talk casually and say your name baby, But we don't even know each other"
This illuminates what is termed as "love at first sight" when just the mention of the name of your love interest makes your heart flutter, when you are fantasize about dates and stargazing with the person but alas, you haven't even spoken two words to each other.
"This time for sure, I’ll be the first to talk talk
But it’s only in my head, always only in my head"
This is so US when we've made up our minds to stop being weird and just talk to the person, we even have a full conversation with them but then we wake up!
"Nanana nananana
I start humming and before I know it
I feel like crying, I don’t feel like myself
This isn’t like me at all
I love you so much"
— When we've convinced ourselves that it is love because it has to be love even though we don't know what love actually is, because no one makes us feel this way so it's got to be love.
"The more I try to push you away
The more I’m drawn and attracted to you baby"
— The bane of our teenage existence, trying to push the object of your affection away but only making the feelings for them stronger.
"You say I’m ridiculous,
That I don’t live up to my looks"
— the object of the affection though is a jerk kdrama
lead, unfortunately, being mean only makes us more interested (neomuhae neomuhaex100000000)
"Why do I feel hungry?
I eat all day and am still hungry"
— the feeling of restlessness of anxiety, you can't breathe, your thoughts are preoccupied by them, what sorcery is this? Surely this must be love...
"Do you realize what’s going on inside me
Don’t disappear from my view like this"
— do you remember that time when you passed by them and you're practically telepathically shouting at them to notice you, pity the don't read minds but surely they must know the way you feel? Yes? TWICE has been there too!
"I’m like TT, just like TT
Tell me that you’d be my baby"
— A plea, a prayer...wishful thinking?
*******
So in the end, TWICE's TT is a relatable song about teenage infatuation and how it is erroneously taken to be love. Don't sweat it though, it's all part of growing up. Don't do anything too rash and you'll survive! It is not the end of love though, merely just a beginning.
