underOATH: Boy Brushed Red Living in Black and White Meaning
Boy Brushed Red Living in Black and White Lyrics
Can you taste the fear in her sweat?
You've done this wrong
Its too far gone
These sheets tell of regret
I admit that I'm just a fool for you
I am just a fool for you
Here is where we both go...

#1 top rated interpretation:This song is about sexual purity. It's about two christians commiting acts of sexual imorality in the eyes of god, they're both very nervious because they know what they are doing is rong, in the second verse of the song it seems as if a friend is talking to them ..I always knew you were a sucker for that..(whore) was cut out in the final track, but the song is basically about purity in god's eyes and christians disregarding it..

2TOP RATED
#2 top rated interpretation:Here's my veiw.. It's totally different from yall's though..
"Can you feel your heartbeat racing?
Can you taste the fear in her sweat?"
- a boy is cheating on a girl with posibly one of her friends that's scared of getting caught(fear in her sweat)
"You've done this wrong
It's too far gone
These sheets tell of regret"
- the boy know's he's messed up and it's too late. He really does care about the original girl, but she wouldnt give him what he wanted (sex) so he cheated.
"I admit that I'm just a fool for you
I am just a fool for you"
- the cheating is basically right in front of the girl's face, but she cares too much about the guy & won't let herself believe it.
"Here is where we both go wrong"
- the boy & girl don't talk about it even though it's obvious he's cheating.
"Tonight's your last chance to
Do exactly what you want to
And this could be my night
This is what makes me feel alive
Makes you feel alive
Here is where we both go wrong
So tie me up
And toss this key
Because for now we're living"
- the boy tells himself that it's the last night he's going to cheat on her with her friend. The guy and girl had previously agreed to keep the cheating a secret. (toss key)
"In this moment that we both ignore the truth
It's all over
It's all over
I feel your heart against mine
So take a breath and close your eyes"
- the guy tells the girl that he's cheating with it's the last time they'll do that, the girl gets pissed because now she's developed feelings for him and she decides to get back at him (she tells the original girl what's been going on behind her back)
"Your lungs have failed and they both stopped breathing"
- the boy finds out that the original girl knows now. and he knows she has to be completely broken.
"My heart is dead and it's way past beating
Something has gone terribly wrong"
- the girl IS completely broken and won't trust anyone ever agian (not that she trusted him completely anyway)she blames herself for the cheating (somthing wrong)
"I'm scared, you're scared, we're scared of this
I never thought we'd make it out alive
I never told you but it's all in your goodbyes
It's all in your goodbyes"
- they care so much about eachother, but there's no trust left. They both knew the relationship would end in disaster before it even started. (I never thought we'd make it out alive)they decide to end the relationship (goodbyes)
"Well look who's dying now
Slit your wrists for sleeping with the girl next door
I always knew you were such a sucker for that
It doesn't matter what you say
it never mattered anyway
Never mattered anyway"
-the boy isn't taking the breakup too well. The girl once agian knew it was right infront of her face (I always knew you were such a sucker for that) and it doesn't matter how sorry they are because even if they did get back together the relationship will never work without trust.
"Don't shake, I hate to see you tremble
Trembling you've lost your touch haven't you?
I'm so addicted
So addicted"
- the boy can't take the girl crying. "you've lost your touch haven't you?" could mean that the girl's not herself anymore. Staying away from each other is hopeless, because they're addicted. -
This song has very high reference to Borderline Personality Disorder & the obsessive/interpersonal relationships that comes with having the disorder.

"a boy brushed in red" has nothing to do with blood or anything else that is the colour red, the title simply means he feels alone, different. hes the colour red but hes living in a blank and white world
-
It's about arron giving up his purity to god. I saw in an interview he said he had sex before he was married and was depressed about sinning
-
I think its about a boy that is in love with thios girl and she is in love with him, but the boy cant see this girl as hes ina different class or forbiden to do so. But he cant take it anymore and neither an she so they have sex. after the parents finding this out and the boy is kicked out of his house and never to see the girl again. I think this reflects the title ( A boy brushed in red ) the red representing blood and that he is destined to die and he knows it if he does the deed.

This song is about a gay guy and a bi guy. they were dating eachother but now the bi one wants to go out with a girl. the title is meaning that the bi one is different and unaccepted (a boy brushed red) and the rest of the world doesnt understand him because they are all "normal" (living in a black and white world).

Interesting. I do agree that it has something to do with some sort of sexual sin; Aaron himself said that most of this album was written because of the end of a four-year relationship. And I did not know that Aaron was color blind. Hmm. I thought that perhaps the the title was referring to the red blood of Jesus, in the stark, sinful world we have built. Just a guess.

This song is about a guy (maybe aaron) who is watching his friend who used to be a devout christian, ruin his life with poor decisions. "slit wrists sleeping with the girl next door" doesn't necessarily mean one of them killed themselves, it could just symbolize all of the bad things crept into his friend's life from the poor decision of sleeping with this girl that he has been lusting over for a long time.
-
It only makes sense for this song to be referring to Aaron from the title [He is color blind]
Plus, I saw where he said he wrote all of the songs from this album about personal experiences. -
