Vampire Weekend: Diplomat's Son Meaning
Diplomat's Son Lyrics
And if I wait could I ever forgive myself?

This song is absolutely amazing.
Its about two young boys who are best friends. the first boy has liked his best friend sexually for a long time, but never thought he had the chance to get with him.
one night the other boy starts showing signs that he likes him more than just a friend.
In that same night after they get high they sleep together.
when the first boy wakes up, his best friend is gone, implying the night was nothing to him and he was only experimenting.
this makes the first boy so sad that he decides to kill himself by jumping in the river by his house in the middle of winter.
and thats it!!
