Vanessa Carlton: Annie Meaning
Annie Lyrics
A day out from the county I.C.U.
There's nothing you can do
Someone gently says to you
The doctor says that now it won't be long
I try and live up til the moment and I hope that I don't blow it
And...

The song is actually about a girl named Victoria. Vanessa met her in the hospital and she wasn't doing so good. Well let's speed it up, Victoria was five then and now is twenty and in college and then on to medical school. I know this because she is my favorite niece

This song is about a girl named Victoria who had Leukemia. She was one of Vanessa Carlton's biggest fans. When she met Vanessa, she whispered Vanessa's song's in her ear and Vanessa was so touched, she wrote a song for her. However the name "Victoria" apparently had too many syllables to sing, so Vanessa decided to use the shorter name "Annie" instead. Vanessa saw Victoria a year later and she is doing quite well :)

Hey guys
I'm Clare. I heard that Vanessa met a huge fan of hers at a hospital and she was dying of cancer. And she started to sing one of Vanessa's songs into her ear and she was touched that she wrote a song. Apparently her name was not Annie it was Veronica or something but still cute. The girl was supposed to die but Vanessa saw her a year later with her hair
Touching song. Love it heapss.

I have heard this song millions of times and I absolutely love it. My own interpretation is that a little girl, Annie, possibly a sister, has Leukemia and Vanessa wishes she could give the bone marrow transplant, but she's not a match. So she has to sit back and watch this young girl die, not being able to do a thing about it. as she spends time getting the girl out of ICU for the day, letting her see some more of the world before her time comes. The girl fights it but doesn't win. and so Vanessa is stuck with the guilt of not being able to help her so she starts drinking as she hopes that Annie isn't in pain anymore.

This song is pretty self-explanatory...this girl is obviously dying, though. I was thinking that maybe she had leukemia, because a lot of leukemia patients need bone marrow. The part that scares me about this song is that my cousin died of leukemia when she was very little, and her name was Summer. One of the lines in this song starts as "Summer dies..." It completely freaked me out the first time I listened to it.

I think the girl that Vanessa's talking about -- Annie -- probably had some form of bone cancer. "I'd give my bones for you to get a few more years...." I think it kind of makes sense. Of course, I could be over-analyzing the song, but that's just how I think of it.
