We Are the Fallen: Sleep Well, My Angel Meaning
Sleep Well, My Angel Lyrics
Knowing that I can't turn the rain into sun any more
I've given you all that I have,
Now I stand here, too scared to hold you hand.
Afraid you might wake to see
The monster that had to leave
'Cause you...

I believe the real beauty of this song, in many ways what a great songwriter strives for, is the multiple potential meanings that can be perceived. It could be a mother to her self-destructive child--no longer willing to be the soft place to fall. Not by choice, but because it's the right thing to do. She has to let them suffer the pain in order to understand how to live again...
I also could see this as a woman to her lover--one who never seems to be satisfied, at the expense of the one ultimately deciding to leave. I imagine someone, perhaps, with depression or any number of other potential challenges that puts a great burden on the other. Maybe this lover is lying unconscious in the hospital after attempting, once again, to end it all.
This tragic turn of events prompts a painful realization that maybe they've been enabling them at the expense of their own happiness. Nobody wins. The one leaving realizes they've also been shielding their beloved from the consequences they'd likely face if they were not there to pick up the pieces. What they believed was protection, was not in the best interests of their partner, nor themselves. The most loving thing they can do is to step aside and allow their "angel" to heal--hopefully,to fly the vast skies again with new wings. -
She is leaving her lover, and it breaks her heart to leave but she must because she is causing her lover pain. Her love sees her as the source of the pain, so she is leaving because she has become the "MONSTER" in the relationship. Even though she truly loves her lover, her partner cannot see it for what it is. So fort hat reason she must leave. She as tried to protect her love but it has not worked. And it breaks her heart that where a beautiful relationship once existed, it is now gone. She can't make it better any more.

She's leaving in the middle of the night because she can't make it better anymore.

I think its about losing someone whether it would be death or a lover. to me it sounds like this person is leaving their loved ones behind.
-
It's about her child.

It's their version of My Immortal. Think about the style- vocals and piano for up until the bridge, then band till the end of the song. I also think this song is also about the death of a lover, or separation.
