Zayn: BeFoUr Meaning
BeFoUr Lyrics
Not like this
I don't drink to get drunk
I feel all the right funk
If there's something I want
I'll take all the right wrongs
Now, I'm gonna stay in my zone
I'm tired of picking that bone
And I can't be bothered to...

Zayn stated in an interview at the time that He was writing and recording this song in Vegas and it was crazy being in Vegas all on his own. He had been all over the world when he was still in a group. So he says 'I’ve done this before, but not like this'. Not by himself, not that way, not there with the intention of working on his own music.

ZAYN's songs are very hard to interpret so pardon my shallow interpretation, disclaimer: these are all assumptions, it's not the real meaning of the song only ZAYN knows what this song means...
Okay, so the song starts with him saying
'I've done this before but not like this'
Referring to something he's already done but at that time he's doing it again but it just feels different... Could either be a relationship or maybe a drug (forgive me).
Then..
'I don't drink to get drunk, I feel all the right funk.'
He's probably saying he drinks not for the sake of drinking but to only feel good emotions and temporarily forget the bad, which are overwhelming
'if there's something I want I'll take all the right wrongs'
Could Mean he would do anything to get what he wants
'Now I'm gonna stay in my zone I'm tired of picking that bone
And I can't be bothered to fight it no more, no'
He's referring to an argument he usually had with someone and now he's choosing to let it go and stay in his lane either because he's bored of it or it's problematic and leading no where
'numb on a roof, set it on fire just to give me proof I'm living on a wire'
I don't know if he's on an actual roof but he's numb so he feels nothing and he's saying he'd blow it all up just to feel something
'so say what you wanna say what you want, shame is you won't say that to my face'
Basically he's saying you can talk your talk about me behind my back or on social media but at the end of the day you don't have the guts to say that to my face
'time for me to move up so many hours have gone'
He's been stagnant for a while and now he's choosing to make a move or change
'heart beats the pump of my blood, no strings for you to pull on'
I'm really not sure about this one, it could be that he's nervous about the move he's about to make and there's no one pulling the strings for him anymore so he has to do this all alone
' you've got your tongue in your cheek so pardon if I don't speak, can't tune my chords into your songs'
The person/people he's referring to have their hidden opinions about him so he chooses not to talk. They can't use his words against him to fit their narrative since he chooses to remain silent.
Then towards the end he screams 'flashing lights'
Could refer to the paparazzi or the media... It could mean he's now in the open and has chosen to be seen.
