Zayn is smoking weed and drinking as he is trying to fit in with the standards and trends that the youth of contemporary world has set. He walks in the party sees all the people getting high, sees them getting involved in meaningless sex and consuming actually dangerous drugs "not weed", and completely becomes unimpressed, he can't relate to any of them. He thinks they are zombies who are wasting themselves for the sake of good time but in the longer run its not even a good time but a suffering experience. that's why he watches everyone from far away. At the end looking at all the mess the people made, he smiles and gives himself a thumbs up for successfully apprehending the scenario and situation at hand.
