Girl, You'll Be a Woman Soon Lyrics

Girl, you'll be a woman soon
I love you so much, can't count all the ways
I've died for you girl and all they can say is
"He's not your kind"
They never get tired of putting me down
And I'll never know when I come around
What I'm gonna...

This song reminds me of a boyfriend I had the summer before I went to college. It is not creepy to me at all. He was not an older man. We were both about 18; in fact, I was a couple of months older than he was, but he was more experienced sexually, and I was not ready. My parents thought he wasn’t “good enough” for me. He was very loving and wanted to continue seeing me although my parents wanted me to break up with him. He never pressured me at all, and seemed content to wait. Others who don’t like the tone of this song refer to “the low, slow grumble each time he says the word ‘girl.’” They call it creepy. And yet I feel it refers to the pain he feels when her parents are so disrespectful of him, calling him “no good.” I believe now that my parents were afraid I would run off and marry him instead of going to college, but I was too sensible for that. At any rate, this song sounds exactly like what Victor would have said, and did say. Not creepy at all to me. Just sad.

This song is about change and growth. A positive critique about a topic that generates fear and awkward projections rather than the beauty that is biology.

Or it’s about virgins getting smashed. Broken in like wild brood mares.

I really do agree with most of the above mentioned interpretations of what is one of my favorite songs. To my mind , the song does not necessarily imply anything sexual ( As to losing her virginity and thus becoming a woman ), I believe there is a man sending a message to this young woman ( who she implies hasn’t become a woman mentally ) stating that soon she will become a woman, and therefore decide for herself. I also believe he is in love with her and wants to offer her the possibility of walking that path together regardless her family disapproval. The first thing that comes to my mind when I listen to this song is “Romeo and Juliet”. However I understand that very many people would differ from my opinion and think that the message is merely sexual: You are a girl and soon you will lose your virginity thus becoming a woman. I would like to be the man that makes you a woman. I believe the latest is a very shallow interpretation of the lyrics thereof, but hey! Everybody is entitled to their opinion.

A somewhat older mans proposition to a younger woman / girl. Taking her innocence (girlhood). Ie Virginity.

The song isn’t necessarily creepy or inappropriate. It could be a 21 year old Male propositioning a slightly younger female maybe 18 that he loves and cares about.

Or it could be a much older man being inappropriate and taking advantage of a much younger girl. That is left up to the listeners to decide I guess.

Girl, You'll Be A Woman Soon by Neil Diamond is a very clear lyrics and I kinda agree with the latest comment. The first and second comment, also explains the traditional interpretations for this song.

You'll be here all week? Seems a secret message to someone. Hope you will be able to see each other here.

The song is about the impressionability of youth. In this case, the indecisive party is female. The narrator fires back at the all rumors by offering "adulthood" to the young lady in the guise of accepting him. However, his rendition may also be an attempt to manipulate. Fortunately that doesn't change the meaning of the title. At some point we must all make up our own minds in regard to our own lives. I'll be here all week.

I think about a a man that hasn't been able to see his daughter for some time and that that side of the family are slaging her dad off all the time to her, but the dad's hands are tied..

I believe this song is about a girl who will become a woman soon and will soon need a man to date or get married to. I also believe that the man he is talking about is him.

I believe this song is about a girl coming to womanhood. It might not be a "very young girl" but more of getting into that stage of marriage, relationships, and needs a man as a partner in life.

The song sounds like it's a guy who really is in love with her, and maybe he is a "bad boy". All her friends/family do not like him. They do not see past all of his antics, to the depth of him which really does love her. He wants to be that man in her life, it could be about losing her virginity. I think he is also asking her to make the choice, that she will be a woman, and she has to take that call to be with him or to leave him.

I think it relates to "old" sort of relationships, does not mean she is very young, just that she is coming of that age where you have to begin looking for a guy to get married to, fall in love with.
