A Perfect Circle: Three Libras Meaning

Three Libras Lyrics
-
Hey I always thought it was about how people don't see eachother properly...Like..The only know the obvious stuff about eachother..They don't actually know them....! Its like also ppl are " in love" with someone..Even though they don't actually know the person like I mean know them! And there just in love with the fact of being in love!
Anywho! I love this song! Plz don't say it's about an orgy?!? Is it!!??

Though MJK is difficult to interpret, I think "3 Libras" is a more self-explanatory song. The most repeated phrase "you don't see me" means just that. A man (perhaps MJK) is being over-looked, whether by a female, friends, and family is for you to decide. This man longs for love and attention but seems as if no one pays him any mind.

This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway

This song is possibly referring to a love triangle. The narrator is involved with at woman who is involved with someone else either in marriage or a serious relationship. The narrator possibly had something at one time with this woman, or is currently carrying on an affair with her. However, the narrator sees this woman as the embodiment of beauty and perfection, and the woman sees him as simply a good fuck.

I was at the show in Phoenix with NIN in 2000.... and he definately did say that to the crowd. Of course that doesn't support the orgy thing, but obviously 2 of the 3 or 9 people live here in AZ. Both bands played absolutely amazing sets that night, but the one thing I remember most vividly was Maynard talking to the crowd about Three Libras. Even from a hundred feet away, you could easily see and hear that incredibly strong emotions were at work with this song....

If you listen to audion comentary on the "aMOTION" dvd/cd box set, Maynard himself explains the song meanings. The secret is that 3 Libras is actually about 9 different people. The song itself is about people who feed on everyone elses energy instaed of growing from it. The libra part is just because the 9 people happened to have a birthday around the same time.

3 libras is not about a sex orgy buddy lol... nice try though just go out and buy the new amotion dvd and it has the incredible meanings to like 6 or 7 of mjk's songs by a perfect circle.3 libras was about people not seeing what him and his freinds had to offer to this world it actually fits with the lyrics quite well.when hes singing you dont see me at all... but yeah theres more behind the song than just sex or whatever .

The meaning of this song, from a band that features “TOOL” vocalist, Maynard James Keenan, has been widely disputed by many. My personal take on this song was that it was written about a sexual orgy, or foursome, involving Keenan and three women whose birthdays happened to fall under the zodiac sign of Libra the Scales, (Sep. 23-Oct. 22).
Because of his deceptive nature, it is hard to grasp a single meaning from any song that contains lyrics written by Keenan. The video does provide some clues, however. In the video three women who are presumptive Libras appear in a bed, implying the presence of a sexual meaning. And at an “A Perfect Circle” performance in Phoenix, AZ recorded June 4, 2000 Keenan says this to the crowd before playing the song:
"This song is called 3 Libras, 2 of whom might possibly be here tonight, oh and if the words to this song sound bitter, it's cause it is and I am."

Additionally, a painting of the biblical characters Samson and Delilah also appears in the video. The presence of the painting has led some to believe that the song was written about the characters.
As legend has it, Samson had great strength that was attributed to a well-kept secret. It is said, that God blessed Samson and that as long as he never cut his hair he would be invincible.
The Philistines were enemies of Samson and they wanted to kill him, but not knowing the secret of his strength, they were unsuccessful. Delilah was a Philistine and because of her ‘relationship’ with Samson she was given opportunity to plea with Samson to tell her the secret of his strength. He lied to her on two separate occasions and told her of false weaknesses, and the Philistines failed at two separate attempts to kill him. Finally, Delilah’s pleas caused Samson to ignore the “obvious” and tell her his true weakness. While he slept she cut his hair and he fell vulnerable to the Philistines, who gouged out his eyes. It is argued that Samson’s overlooking of the “obvious” and the three tries to kill him somehow relate to the three Libras, but I doubt it.
(By the way, Keenan’s birthday is April 17, 1964, which falls under the zodiac sign of Aries.)
