Like We Used To Lyrics
Sharing pillows and cold feet
She can feel my heart
Fall asleep to it's beat
Under blankets and warm sheets
If only I could be in that bed again
If only it were me instead of him
Does he...

#1 top rated interpretation:The song "Like We Used to" by A Rocket to The Moon is mainly about a couple moving on after a break-up and the hard part was seeing the ex-girlfriend move on before the boy could cope with it.
Verse one is mainly about a boy having flash backs about being with his ex-girlfriend and wishing he was still with her. For example, the boy says "If only I could be in that bed again/ If only it was me instead of him" (6-7). That pretty much states he’s not over it and wishes they were still together.
Verse two compares the ex-boyfriend with the new guy. It basically gives a list of things the ex-boyfriend used to do and then questions if the new guy does those things. For example, “Does he watch your favorite movies/ Does he hold you when you cry” (8-9). In a way, the ex-boyfriend is looking out for her and acts like he wants the best for her.
Verse three almost seems as if the ex-boyfriend caught his girl cheating on him. In the song it states “I know you know how we felt about that night/ It should have been me inside that car/ I should have been me instead of him” (16, 20-21). With that, it seems like the ex-boyfriend is sad and depressed with what he saw.
Verse five is mainly about the ex-boyfriend feeling cheated because the girl cheated. In the verse it states, "I always end up feeling cheated/ Oh, darling I know I’m not needed" (33,35) The guys is pretty much saying she doesn’t need him because she found someone else that fills her needs. Also in that verse, it seems as if the ex misses his girl. He states, "I‘m a sucker for that feeling/ Your on my mind, love" (31, 34). With that, the boy always thinks about her and in a way he wants her back.
Verse six sums up the song basically saying “If we can't be together, promise me you’ll find happiness”. I know this because in the song the ex says, “Will he love you like I loved you/ Can you promise me if this one’s right”(37,40). He’s pretty much saying he wants what’s right for her and she’s should throw something like this away.
Overall, I think the theme of the song is dealing with break-ups can be hard but people should move on and take their own advice about getting through it. The mood of this song was kind of gloomy because most break-ups are. But what made it worse was the verse about cheating. In a way, the cheating makes the song more relatable because cheating happens quite often. Plus, most of the time cheating leads to break-ups. Also, many teens will be able to connect to songs like this because in high school relations are broke everyday. -
I know the guy who wrote this song, i used to talk to him on Text Plus, he wrote it for a girl who he was going out with over a distance, called Maddi, although this song has no relevence, he sent me it before it even came out and also sent me a recording of it, some of the lyrics are different. This song also suggests that the girl has died 'it should've been me inside that car' thought i'd point that out, but this isn't their song.. it's his.

I absolutely love this song. There's so much pain and heartache behind this song. its about this guy not wanting it to be over between him and his girl and him knowing that he cant get her back because she's with someone else (It should've been me instead of him in the dark)... (Does he do all these things, lik ei used to) i also think its about this guy missing love (I know love, im a sucker for that feeling) but i also think that he still wants the best for her even though its not with him (Will he love you like i loved you will he tell you everyday? will he make you feel like you're invincible with every word he says? can you promise me if this was right, don't throw it all away will he do all these things, like we used to?) Great song ... Brings me to tears remembering what i used to have. <3
