Aqua: Barbie Girl Meaning
Song Released: 1997
Barbie Girl Lyrics
Hi Ken!
Do you wanna go for a ride?
Sure Ken!
Jump In...
I'm a barbie girl, in the barbie world
Life in plastic, it's fantastic!
you can brush my hair, undress me everywhere
Imagination, life is your creation
Come on Barbie,...

From what I can tell, it's a spoof (obviously). It's saying, "As long as a guy tells you he loves you, it's okay to let him do whatever he wants to you." 'This isn't Aqua's want, more of a way to tell kids it isn't right while still letting little kids think it's just a fun song about a Barbie.
Pretty much that's what Barbie is about though. It teaches girls and boys to be pretty/masculine and because of these reasons (and these alone) we'll be happy.
Short version: It's okay to be a slut as long as he likes you. :3 (Don't think that this is true please! :P ) -
It's about barbie as a prostitute
-
There is nothing existential about the content of this song. It is not satire conveying the diluted youth or any of that.
It is a fine example of how the 90s pop culture utilized the already preprogrammed mind sets of a Barbie retired generation that wants to reunite with their youth. As well as the current Barbie fan base.
It is Aqua's only claim to fame.
"I'm a Barbie Girl..." is just another sticky slogan of the 90s. -
I believe the song has undertones of BDSM talkignabout how she is willing to be perfectly submited to him
Make me walk, make me talk, do whatever you please I can act like a star, I can beg on my knees Come jump in, be my friend, let us do it againHit the town, fool around, let's go party You can touch, you can playYou can say I'm always yours -
Basically this is a song about how Barbie is a really big slut and Ken is her pimp of sorts. It talks about her going on her knees, dress up in tight clothes, hanky panky, fool around with guys, "party". It's basically just saying Barbie is actually a huge slut.
-
I've looked into it, and from everything I've read, I gather that this song is actually about a book from 1938. The book, "Angels of the New World Order: Caregivers of Deaths Manifestation", written by Archibald T. Higgs, outlines a plan by big industry to set up a domino effect of events designed to disorient and confuse a nation of non poet children drearily marching towards a destiny of servitude and slavery in factories and gray stucco suburban castlettes in order to passify them on this journey. "Barbie" is an icon of this death march and is the greatest symbol of a generations self mutilation and narcissism.

Ha dude it's about sex. Everyone at my school has figured that out they always play at dances and we always laugh about it..
-
I think the band wanted to make fun of barbie so they did this song...look at the lyrics closely lmao
-
The melody is nice but the lyrics aren't a good example for little girls. I heard the weird al version "ugly girl". It was so funny xD
Basically it's about barbie and how perfect she is with a perfect body, boyfriend, and life. -
This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway
-
I like the music, but it's a stupid song overall, about how little girls shouldn't make Barbie their roll model, and how they think she's a Slut.
-
This song is about how some women/girls have no control of their lives because of the pressure it takes to be a perfect woman (represented by Barbie). Barbie is a doll that is controlled by whomever is playing with it. The same way the media influences a lot of people in the world. It is just a spoof. I still love the song though.
-
Come on now, this is just a stupid song about some stupid dolls! I can't believe you people seek a deeper meaning in this one! Wait, I got it... Barbie girl is in fact the apocalypse monster who comes to destroy the world while Ken is Lucifer himself... Wow, what a surprise, who could tell!
