Atoms for Peace: Ingenue Meaning
Ingenue Lyrics
You know like the back of your hand
Who let me in
You got me into this mess so
You get me out.
You know like the back of your hand
Your bell jar.
Your collection.
Ingenue.
You get me into this mess.
Fools rushing in,...

I like the sense you both make out of this song, it's one of my Thom Yorke's favourites. Of course I don't believe there can be a full closed interpretation, but here's mine. I feel this song is more about trying to tell someone you love her/him (couple or not) when they're having a bad time and getting so much fear about it. I think it's about a very close (intimate) relation with someone that has been hurt, either from a past relationships with other humans or from really difficult situations that can drive someone to depression. The Ingenue is for me the one that feels loneliness while theres someone trying to get closer. The song could be about a Mother/sister/brother/friend and her/his son/daughter/friend... that is getting sadness from the awereness of vulnerability in 'real life' (not getting a job, nor desired education, nor economic or even spiritual/ emotional realization). However, for me the image of a dandelion blown away makes me thing the INGENUE is someone close to death, disaster, life ending or the MEANING OF LIFE being taken away. Thom, a poet, a child, a mother, a friend, a lover that tries to get closer to the lonely INGENUE is singing this song so that he/she gets better. I hope people understand my interpretation if they have lived with beloved ones that developed terminal deseases, closer encounters with death or even depresion that makes them feel alone.
-Salutes from Mexico. I've been in both sides, the INGENUE and the one that supports her/him. -
Can't explain what happened in the deepest part of my soul when l get lost in his music, like connected with universe.
I wouldn't try to interprète it's full meaning as l would loose the magic part but yes l agree with your explanation
would go even further as such passion /love will lead you to trouble and mess and being hurt without the possibility to go back as it's a no return journey. -
This song demonstrates the symbiotic, sometimes even adversely so, relationship between a more dominant male lover and his ingenue, his more vulnerable, impressionable, innocent lover. They both feed off each other's strengths n vulnerabilities. He sees strength in her as does she see in him. It's so beautifully portrayed in the video. What I wouldn't give to be the "ingenue" in that video with Thom Yorke. I consider him a true musical genius. I get lost in his music, voice, and lyrics.
