    I think the song represents living free and taking what comes as it comes. It represents standing out and not caring about what others think of you when you go to break every rule in the book. You choose how you live your life. Everyone loses friends and cuts ties, everyone gets into trouble, everyone wants to live free of any chains. This song represents that you can do that very thing all the while not changing the person inside you.
