Wake Me Up! Lyrics
Guided by a beating heart
I can't tell where the journey will end
But I know where to start
They tell me I'm too young to understand
They say I'm caught up in a dream
Well life will pass me by if...

#1 top rated interpretation:I believe it to be sarcasm. Basically he's trying to live life and enjoy it but folks are telling him he's living a dream and he's too young to understand things so the sarcasm comes in to play; just wake me up when it's over; I won't keep trying to find myself because I guess I'm just too young and apparently lost.
He tried to live up to the worlds expectation but he realized he couldn't ,hence he only had two hands. He'd like to travel and see the world signifying he wants to experience life on the fullest in a youthful and passionate and spontaneous way without plans but apparently his piers are judgmental so it's best just to fall asleep on life and wait until he's wiser and older so he can "live" with the correct perspective . -

#2 top rated interpretation:Being a teenager and having too many responsibilities and problems wanting to ignore them and just enjoy their time while they're young.

#3 top rated interpretation:Picking himself up, making his way through a hard time.

The tone of this song is unknowing. The tone of this song is unknowing because Avicii sings “and I didn’t know I was lost” This means that he didn’t know he was lost so he was wandering around and wasn’t that prepared for life in general. Another thing he sings is “All this time I was finding myself” which is saying he didn’t know who he was. Later, he sings “So wake me up when it's all over” which is saying he doesn’t want to be in life with all the chaos surrounding him and he doesn’t want to know. His lyrics all say that he does not want to be here over and over again. Continuously, singing these same lyrics, it proves the fact that he didn’t know he was lost and that he was still finding his way.
The mood of this song is optimistic. Clearly, the song has words in it that make it clear. In the lyrics;
“I can't tell where the journey will end
But I know where to start”
proves the point. When Avicii sings this, it is hopeful (the basic definition of optimistic). The section, “But I know where to start”, means that he has hope on where his journey will start. Later on, he sings
The message about coming of age is that growing up is hard but people have to persevere. To illustrate, he sings;
“I tried carrying the weight of the world
But I only have two hands”
When he sings this he is expressing the fact that carrying the weight of the world is too hard when he only has two hands.

I believe this song is about going through hard times. It is about a person who has gone through lots of hardships has huge responsibility on his shoulder. While going through so much the person feels lost, wants to find his true identity and wants to live life the way he dreamt of but is constantly turned down by the people by saying that he is too young and isliving a dreamy life. The guy just wants to let all these hardships go, start up fresh and live happily

Addiction, and wanting to be helped, not having full control of your life.

Perhaps the two girls are disliked because they have strange preferences, mabey even ahead of their time. Also, their parents seem to be missing, and they're looking for a better life. The older girl is trying to put it all aside in a far dark corner in her mind.

I believe the song is about opening your eyes up to the world and realising how amazing life is and where we actually are in the universe. Wake me up when i am lost is referring to awakening to life and coming to the realisation of who we actually are

I think it means enjoy life while you can.
-
maybe it means he is commiting suicide because he doesnt think he is that great. hence: when im wiser and in older.
he will be wiser and older in heaven -
This interpretation has been marked as poor. view anyway
