Beatles: All You Need is Love Meaning

Album cover for All You Need is Love album cover

Song Released: 1967

All You Need is Love Lyrics

Love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love.
There's nothing you can do that can't be done.
Nothing you can sing that can't be sung.
Nothing you can say but you can learn how to play the game
It's easy.
There's nothing you can make...

I think the Beatles created this song to mean many things it just depends on how you look at / hear it.

What everyone thinks is partly true and partly not. John Lennon is saying that there's nothing we can do that can't be done to but it's easy to do it with love. We all need love. This song isn't like all the others with all the double meanings its right there the meaning is right there "All you Need Is Love" That how John was he believed we all need love he believed he could change the world with love. John wanted to be loved.

I thinhk that the song is very optimistic and its saying that you can do a lot of things. Also that it is and anti-war song, and is supporting the peace movent from back then

The meaning is in the title all the b.s. That countries races, beliefs can be mellowed with the title. religious sect ;my GOD' killing total strangers in the name of JESUS,ALLAH or any other word you want to use for your spiritual leader is insane. just love your neighbor and see what happens,PLAY IT FORWARD

Umm ok you're a retard. You're trying to crack the code on this song and you can't even spell John Lennon's name. You crack addict go back to grammar school.

The meaning of the song is love is all you need (as said in the song). No matter what you say it all leads back to all you need is love and love is all you need. Everyone can do everything, so the only thing that sets us apart is love because we all have different ways of loving.

I read in rolling stones magazing that the word "love" in this song symbolizes sodomy. Basically this song is all about John lennans obsession with soddomy.

no you guys listen up. since I've been studying how we create our own realities the meaning of this song has become obvious to me. love is the only truth behind all the reality we appear to live in and therefore believing in love and asking for whatever you desire will provide you with whatever you desire to do in your life life no matter what. John figured this out early on and was the motivating force behind the beatles. wherever you are is perfect if you are only paying attention.

Sometimes a song meaning is so simple that people miss it. People, look at the title: All You Need Is Love is self explainitory.

Just a random bit of trivia to stoke the conspiratory fire: If you use a vocal enhancer and turn it up really, really loudly, you can hear the real words in the end of the song. Most people hear "She loves you, yeah, yeah, yeah..." but what is really being said is "We loved you yeah, yeah, yeah... She loved you yeah, yeah, yeah..." That's right. Past tense. Further supports the Beatles' "Paul is Dead" thing. Try this website for details on the whole "conspiracy".

I think that this song is saying that people shouldn't be greedy for money, when "all you need is love." Love is all you need, it is like the gas that starts your engine, and without it we wouldn't be able to live.

It could have something to do with anti-war (as according to duran fan), but could any song that validates ones existance not be interpreted this way?

"There is nothing you can do that can't be done"

Notice the double negative - becomes

    "you can do anything"

The same is true throughout the rest of the lyrics.

then the chorus- all you need is love

Is it just me, or is the meaning to this song not glaringly obvious?
We, the (intelligent) human individuals that we are, need nothing over and above basic necessity. It is the seeking of more (greed) that leads us, the human race, into the tumultuous, hate ridden, ignorant, blind etc state of affairs we are in today.

If (that is a big IF) we can realise ourselves (which is what John is trying to get at) then we can begin to fix this situation. But then there have always been and always will be those who want more.

Greed is the root. All you need is love. (She loves you, yeah, yeah, yeah!)
