Beck: Chemtrails Meaning
Song Released: 2008
Chemtrails Lyrics
You and me watching the jets go by
Oh, ooh, oh
Oh, ooh, oh
Down by the sea
So many people
They've already drowned
You and me watching a sea full of people
Try not to drown
So many people
So...

I just watched a documentary about geoengineering, "What On Earth Are They Spraying?" and it doesn't seem like a conspiracy theory at all. It is pretty obvious that there are large amounts of aluminum, barium, and strontium being deployed in our atmosphere on a daily basis. There are plenty of samplings of many different environments across the planet where this sediment has made an impact on the waters and the soil. Watch the documentary, or one of the thousands of others that are popping up.
I am trying to figure out if the song is critical of the conspiracy or if it agrees with and supports it—Okay, scratch that, I got it.
At the beginning, Beck seems to be musing about whether it's really happening, saying "I can't believe what we've seen outside... watching the jets go by" wondering at how "so many people, falling in time... try not to drown."
I'm not sure who "you and me" are? This could be just Beck and his wife. He feels separate from this world and these conspiracy theories. He and his mate are set apart, musing at how people are just passing their time with the concerns of this world. This is "where we can go." I guess he doesn't set himself apart so much, because he is admitting that's where they can go, too, "watching the sky for the chemtrails."
Beck starts to speak of what he can see. He doesn't see anything in the skies but fog. He doesn't see anything in this light but a sinking boat. He starts to speak of the afterlife and the evil in this world. We're already lost, basically, because of our sin nature. (Beck is a known scientologist, and they do have Christian-like beliefs in sin and the fallen nature of humanity---except for the whole thetans in the blood thing---but that is kind of a metaphor for sin too)
I'm not sure what he means by "hit by a cloud like an eagle." I guess this suggests the both the idea that we are being hurt by these "clouds" or "chemtrails" coming down, but that is kind of nice, because an eagle might fly through a cloud or "hit a cloud." He's implying that this is dualistically a partially beautiful concept.
He fatalistically continues to say this is "where we belong. Watching the chemtrails." We are living in the temporal universe, and it is our lot to sit and wonder about these things that might not amount to anything. (Does anyone else ever feel this way when contemplating mysteries that might never be solved?)
And of course, the conclusion is the culmination of the spiritual aspect of this song. "That's where we'll be when we die in the slipstream. We'll climb in the hole in the sky." He is kind of making something that could be an insidious government program, which could cause real pain and suffering through environmental and actual personal physical damage (aluminum causes heart attacks and Alzheimer's), into a beautiful and even ethereal metaphor for our ascent into the next life or heaven. I must admit, chemtrails are very beautiful. I can totally see why an objective person not motivated by the outrage and information behind this phenomenon might perceive this as beautiful. I used to love to watch them when I thought they were just contrails from jets. It did start to disturb me before, though, even when I didn't know, as these once formed streams of cloud-like haze started to ooze and lose shape. Let's hope that our health and planet doesn't follow suit.
I can't believe what we've seen outside
You and me watching the jets go by
Oh ooh oh, oh ooh oh
Down by the sea, so many people
Falling in time
You and me watching the sea full of people
Try not to drown
So many people, so many people
Where do they go?
You and me watching the sky for the chemtrails
That's where we can go
All I can take from these skies is fog
And all I can see in this light, a boat sinking
Oh ooh oh, oh ooh oh
Down by the sea, swallowed by evil
Already drowned
You and me watching the sea full of people
Already drowned
So many people, so many people
Where do they go?
You and me hit by a cloud like an eagle
Watching the jet planes go by
You and me watching, you and me watching
Chemtrails is where we belong
That's where we'll be when we die in the slipstream
We'll climb in the hole in the sky -
Dude saw chemtrails and tripped out dude;)
