Bette Midler: Wind Beneath My Wings Meaning
Song Released: 1989
Wind Beneath My Wings Lyrics
It must have been cold there in my shadow
To never have sunlight on your face
You were content to let me shine, that's your way
You always walked a step behind
So I was the one with all the glory
While you were the one with all...

#1 top rated interpretation:it is actually about her best friend and her battle with cancer. this was Bette's way of sending her off in peace and also saying thankyou for always being there to support her through her toughest years and everything they have gone through together

I retired from Law Enforcement after 27 years of service. This song was played at a funeral for one of the many I've attended for Police Officers that were killed in the line of duty. I never really get emotional but this song made me break down and cry as I watched the flag being given to the Officer's now widow wife, and children he left behind. I would like to thank Bette Midler for recording this and a big thank you to all Law Enforcement Officers, and of course, to all of the personnel of the United States Military. It seems these days, there is hardly any support for you who have chosen this field, but know that you are always in our prayers and you all are the wind beneath our winds.

A beautiful and enduring song , sung by BETTE MIDLER, whereby her right wing point of view within this song which could be about a woman and God[Jesus Christ] as her unknowing Hero, Who at first seemed He wasn't received and appreciated as a ''over shadowed man'', but He must've let her have her free will that put herself ahead of Him to be guided first more by her left wing higher path many times, whereby at last she finally learned to balance her flight to appreciate the love of him being her hero who pushed the wind beneath her wings and who paid the price for letting her just go and be herself to experience the pride and beauty of her splendid glory. Oh , what we man have to put up with many times.

Yes this song was dedicated to a dear friend of Bette's who died from cancer who had supported her at the early start of her career.

I played this song at my sons funeral/ He was the wind beneath my wings and I was the wind beneath his. His 20 years on earth was filled with alot of good and bad times but I was there for his shine and his struggle as he was with me! RIP Lil Kevin

I hold this song in high regard and my interpretation is this. It's about support and encouragement think of it like this how can a bird or airplane fly its the "wind" that holds them up and how someone in your life whether a best friend, relative or that one special person who always stands or stood by you even though what they do or may have done for you may gone unnoticed they are your strength they gave you that push that you needed. They have helped you through the rough times and it's a way of you saying thank you for helping me.

supporting, sharing and helping others , tho they wont be able to know you. and for me i always say this phrase " i will always be the winds beneath your wings " to my sons and grandkids , coz i will always be with them to give love and support unconditionally. they will always feel my presence , just like the wind .
