Shelter, by Birdy
- I find shelter, in this way,
- Under cover, hide away.
When life becomes stressful, you're upset, you feel inconsolable....the one person you instinctively want to run to for shelter, they can somehow always calm you down and quiet all the noise and stress in your head. They make you feel safe, calm, protected, and hidden from everything that was upsetting you.....your shelter.
- Can you hear, when I say?
- I have never felt this way.
She doesn't think he understands how special he is to her or that she sees him different from other guys she's dated. He doesn't seem to notice or understand how much she actually loves him.
- Maybe I had said, something that was wrong,
- Can I make it better, with the lights turned on (repeats).
When you finally meet someone that you feel like you may actually be in love with, you're on an emotional high, which typically results in the tendency to say some really dumb and crazy things that you wouldn't expect a normal person to say, but not even realize it at the time. Sometimes deep feelings cause people to over react or be too sensitive. Love can make people say some crazy things. If he doesn't understand that she's really in love with him, he may just assume she's kind of crazy, so instead of taking her seriously and talking through their problems, he may just brush them aside in the bedroom...with the lights off.
- Could I be, was I there?
- It felt so crystal in the air
It seems they are physically far from each other and have been for a while, like the last time they were actually together almost doesn't seem real, but more like an amazing dream. Perhaps felt too good to be true. Yet, she can still remember so vividly even those brief moments of being with him. Both dreamlike, yet more real than anything she's ever known at the same time.
- I still want to drown, whenever you leave.
- Please teach me gently, how to breathe.
The feeling of physical pain whenever you can't be near that person. Possibly asking him to help her deal with the pain and get through it, to stick by her and have patience in dealing with her over the top emotions and trust that somehow it will be worth it in the end.
- And I'll cross oceans, like never before.
- So you can feel the way I feel it too.
- And I'll mirror images back at you.
- So you can see the way I feel it too.
She's willing to take huge risks that most people would not take, and that she hadn't gone so far to take with him previously, just to be able to make him understand how she feels about him. But words just aren't enough to explain and express her feelings. She has to show him how she feels. Maybe expressing it through imagery created in poetry or music in order to be able to truly understand what she is feeling.
