People Help the People Lyrics

"God knows what is hiding in those weak and drunken hearts
Guess he kissed the girls and made them cry"
It seems that the artist is referring to, from a female standpoint, as being created with hearts that are vulnerable and emotional.
"Those hard-faced Queens of misadventure"
These are also talking about the same females that mask (hard-faced) their emotions. Queens is capitalized (or is it?) which means it refers to just females. Misadventure means an unfortunate incident so basically when females get hurt and mask it. Queens also can refer to historical queens who always had to be hard-faced and show no emotion. The artist is reflecting on all the women who've been hurt and continue to walk around without showing it, maybe even herself.
"God knows what is hiding in those weak and sunken lies
Fiery thrones of muted angels
Giving love but getting nothing back"
The artist is probably referring to when females say "I'm okay" as this would be an example of a weak lie and a sunken lie (meaning its a heavy lie that has been told too many times). A fiery throng of muted angels is answering what is hiding in the lies. This refers to all the emotions inside that do not have a voice. All the feelings that are underneath the "I'm okay" lie. These feelings or "angels" give love by hearing other people's feelings but get nothing back as they have no one to listen to them. The artist reflects on the emotional level of herself or all the people who do this.
The first half of the chorus:
"Oh, People help the people
And if you're homesick, give me your hand and I'll hold it
People help the people
And nothing will drag you down"
is encouraging people to help people and what she would do and how it will help.
"Oh, and if I had a brain
Oh, and if I had a brain
I'd be cold as a stone and rich as the fool
That turned all those good hearts away"
The second half is very intriguing. The artist could be referring to how she has a heart and not a brain. Because the brain (or pure intellect) is considered emotionless (cold as a stone) but rich (actually poor, I think this is sarcasm) as the fool that turned all those good hearts away (turned everyone away because without a heart you can't connect with people). The artist could be reflecting on all the people who turn away from the people who love them or the people that need them and how she would not do that because she believes people help the people.
"God knows what is hiding in this world of little consequence (people get away with a lot of things)
Behind the tears, inside the lies (referring to women again from the beginning)
A thousand slowly dying sunsets (uses fiery concept again but this time going out and becoming cold, losing emotions, burnt out, depressed)
God knows what is hiding in those weak and drunken hearts (same people as the beginning)
I guess the loneliness came knocking
No one needs to be alone or sinking" (She may be referring to herself again or other people but its about the feeling of loneliness helping her to realize she needs others (and we need others) to stay afloat.
