Birdy: Wings Meaning
Song Released: 2013
Wings Lyrics
Illuminates our skin
We watch the day go by
Stories of all we did
It made me think of you
It made me think of you
Under a trillion stars
We danced on top of cars
Took pictures of the stage
So far from where...

#1 top rated interpretation:Every time I listen or sing this song reminds me of my husband who passed away. "If these wings could fly" - so I can go and see him or join him.
"Damn these Walls" - walls that are keeping us from each other.
"Because I Thought Of You" - Recalling memories of our time together. -

#2 top rated interpretation:I think the song is about being away from the one you love, whether separated by distance or time.

3TOP RATED
#3 top rated interpretation:I believe this song is about someone remembering the good moments with someone special. The line 'We'd remember tonight for the rest of our lives' indicates that this person specifically told her to remember that perfect moment and to forget the confinement of these 'walls', which in my interpretation means this life and all the difficulties we endure, I believe the line 'if these wings could fly' indicates that the other person has passed and she wants to be with him. It would also explain why she would recall these memories and why she keeps saying that these things made her think of him. the line 'lights go down' could also indicate that a life ended. One of my favourite lines is 'in the moment we're lost and found'. In my opinion it means that she lost him and in that moment she was lost, but he was found (Heaven). A hauntingly beautiful song.

I have been listening to Wings and all I could picture was the promises of rest embraced by my loved ones. So for me, the song is about the memories which a person trip thru after the departure of their love, and the longing to fly up there and be with them.
-
Definitely about the loss of a loved one. Yearning to see them so much that if only she had wings to fly and see them again. It can possibly also be the sadness of a relationship that once was full of the sweetest love of her life that has been lost over time and the stresses that life has taken it’s toll on. “If these wings could fly”, related to the feeling of yearning to fly back in time but “Damn these walls”

"The song is about having a wonderful time and the memory of being with your friends and kind of wishing you were back there, so I wanted it to feel like a festival, and then the director had the idea of putting everyone in carnival clothes to make it a bit weirder and more interesting," she recalled to The Mail On Sunday's You Magazine.

I think that it is about happiness and regret at the same time as she is remembering things that are good and worthwhile and regretting jot being with this person.

When Birdy says in the song Wings, "Sunlight comes creeping in Illuminates our skin" she could be referring to the Greek Myth Daedalus and Icarus, when Icarus goes to close to the sun melts the wax that makes his wings stay together.
When Birdy says "I just wanna be by your side If these wings could fly For the rest of our lives" and "My thoughts they slip away... Because I thought of you" she also refers to this the same Greek Myth, because Icarus wanted to Listen but his thoughts got the best of him and he didn't listen to his farther.
Again Birdy refers to this Greek Myth again stating, "Oh lights go down In the moment we're lost and found I just wanna be by your side If these wings could fly Oh damn these walls In the moment we're ten feet tall" in this text she is stating that Icarus was blinded by how happy he was, to even to get to use the wings.
In conclusion Birdy refers to many parts in the Greek Myth Daedalus and Icarus using many forms of what seems to be regret and not listening carefully to others. -
I think this song is not about death or being apart . It's about a couple who have been together a long time who see time pass by , they look back on all the lovely memories they have shared , 2nd verse is about when they were young and wild and all tho they are far from then , they shared every memory . Dam these walls are just obstacles in their life that they have overcome , still want to be by each other's side and they hope they have wings that can fly so high they will always be together ❤️

I think this song is about being separated from a person you love. You sit all alone thinking about your last memories together and you're sad you can't be together again.
-
This song reminds me of the relationship I am currently in. I honestly think this is song is talking about a long distance relationship, a break up with someone she loves, or someone passing away. I listen to this song because it means a lot to me and I can definitely relate to it. This song is beautiful and I have tears in my eyes whenever I listen to it, good job Birdy

Wings is a song about memory, how things reminds us bout a beatiful and happy past we used to live in. And now, you just go over and over those memories beacuse they make you happy but sad beacuse you can't live that again.

I think this song actually is about a long distance relationship.. And honestly ot makes me cry all the time. This is a very sad and beautiful song..

When i hear this song i feel like it's about my previous realtionship, who was with a boy living in another city than me. I think the main character in this song is singing about the realtionship that had to end because of distance, whether it's because he's in heaven, or just far away. A beautiful, but sad song..
