Black Tide: Honest Eyes Meaning
Song Released: 2011
Honest Eyes Lyrics
I'm filled with hate,
And you will regret!
How did I get so lost?
Fight!
I'll end this fight,
Pull myself out
Save myself at all cost!
Give me my,
My life back!
I will take what's gone!
How?
How'd we come this...
-
I think this song is about how the world went so corrupt and how the person feels infected by the corruption. That person wants to be free of the corruption, of the disgrace, he/she wants to "rise above it all".
VERSES:
"Hate! I'm filled with hate, and you will regret! How did I get so lost?"
The person feels full of anger and hate (a problem of the nowadays world we have) and wonders why he/she got "so lost" of what was right.
"Fight! I'll end this fight, pull myself out, save myself at all cost."
The person is willing to do anything that is necessary to get rid of all this hate and win the fight against the world.
"Give me my, my life back! I'll take back what's gone!"
In this part, the person wants his/her life back, which was taken by the hate.
"Scorn! The things I've done, have left me scarred! I broke down every wall!"
Here, he/she tells that the things that he/her did because of the hate left him/her with deep psychological scars. Because of the hate, he/she destroyed everything (broke down every wall).
"Disgrace! A victim of my own disgrace! I'll rise above it all!"
In this part the person states that he/she was a victim of his/her own disgrace, but he/she is willing to surpass that and rise above it, getting rid of his/her disgrace and hate.
"My path is clearer through honest eyes... my will is stronger through honest eyes!"
Here the person states that his/her path of life becomes clearer when he/she sees life through eyes rid of hate and anything evil, and that the will to pursue that becomes stronger with that same view of life.
CHORUS:
"How?
How'd we come this far?
And why did we survive?
I'd rather live my life through honest eyes!
Where did we go wrong?
And what did we not see?
I'd rather live my life through honest eyes!"
Here the person is wondering how did the human race get through everything until now and how it survived despite the hate. He/she also wonders where did humankind go wrong to cause such evil and what we didn't foresee to prevent all this evil. Finally, the person concludes he/she would prefer to be living an honest life, empty of hate and evil and free from the world.
