The Hurt Lyrics
-
Followed cat stevens music religiously as a diehard new Yorker and a fan all the way ''back to earth'' album and going further back in time to ''the hurt'' song out of ''the foreigner suite'' album that feels the cat was being disillusioned in trying to find the truth to the answers that he was looking for in the way the eastern religions of philosophy was being preached by some phonies of the time for profit.
The cat throughout most of his songs like this one was on a spiritual seeking journey, reminds me of Gordon lightfoot's ''cold hands from new york'' song, being raised with a Christian upbringing in his early life that in one way or another believed that if you stay true to yourself in your faith and get passed the hurt in ''turning your heart to the bright sun'' you will eventually find the meaning of love in the search, but the cat was dabbling like a ''jack of all trades'' in the peace and flower power of eastern buddhism, occult spiritualism, tarot card reading, numerology astrology, zen, and even I ching to understand the world that he was living in becoming an empowered Christian in the battle of the mind for freedom of the illusions that he felt pushed by to sellout from his true path in god. fell like cat stevens gave it a good try as a Christian cry in martyrdom 'cause I feel he realized to ''live ouside of Christ is to die and to die in Christ is to live''.
Don't know what made him jump ship, but still like to think that the cat has jesus in his heart with the tongue of a muslim that god guided him to use for peace and music for a better world. happy new year and thanks for the music Yusuf[joseph] that never let me down, only comforted me towards my journey in my ''lord and saviour jesus Christ'' that died for my sins a long, long time ago.
