Citizen Cope: Mandy Meaning
Mandy Lyrics
She said everything you’ve learned yeah you’ve been told
How can I get you to forget for awhile
She’s at my door won’t leave me alone
And she says that she’ll make my pain go by
But I know about Mandy...

Citizen Cope's songs are a lot about alcohol and opiate addiction. This is an opiate addiction song. You really have to listen to this song to catch it. "she's at my door won't leave me alone and she says that she will make my pain fly by." Meaning the thoughts of getting high won't leave him alone...pain fly by is pretty obvious. "I know about Mandy cause Mandy you never forget". Referring to the pain and withdrawal symptoms of opiates being so bad that you can't forget them. "if she was a blond I'd tell go on but Mandy's a brunette." Ok this lyric is questionable but I'm pretty sure I'm right on this. Blonds reference having more fun and can be compared to cocaine due to the fact that they have light hair and cocaine is white and considered to be a fun drug with little withdrawal symptoms. Heroin is usually brown in color referring to a brunette and you can't just stop heroin like cocaine, you can't just tell heroin to "go on". "and she's got nothing left to win, she'll get your heart again." Meaning he no longer gets high or any of the initial benefits he got from the drug but when he tries to stop the pain of depression kicks in referring to "get your heart again". "Part vietnamese and hinduese she'll set you free like the indica tree in the back of a black limo." Ok, we'll this is referring to the region where heroin is cultivated and the fact that indica has the most sedative and pain killing properties of the marijuana group. I think he through in the limo part to show how expensive and famous/star appeal the drug has to himself.
