Clairo: Bags Meaning
-
In an official Genuis interview with Clairo, she states the meaning of this song. She said that it's about one of her first experiences with a girl.
Verse 1
In the line "every second counts" she is talking about the feeling of when you like someone. And how time is ticking so loudly."It's almost as if every second is wasted because you're not expressing how you feel about them," says Clairo. She said that the line "you can call me by the name I gave you yesterday" is in context of the nicknames they used to give each other. However, it also alludes to the 2017 film Call Me By Your Name as a little gay hint as Clairo says.
