    I feel like Pretty Girl by Clairo is about feeling the need to change yourself for someone you’re in a relationship with. It’s not very clear at first, the song is very mellowsweet and it’s easy to listen through without picking up on the lyrics. But midway through the song, we get lyrics like “I was so blinded by you and now I cry” and “I’m alone now and it’s better for me” and you realize that the song isn’t about being in love it’s about a negative relationship that ended up in a breakup, and the repetition of “I could be a pretty girl, I’d wear a skirt for you” and “I’ll shut up when you want me to” starts meaning that Clairo tried to make herself more feminine and presentable to please someone who couldn’t love her unless they had control over Clairo and their relationship.
