Conan Gray: The Story Meaning
Song Released: 2020
The Story Lyrics
About a boy and a girl
It's kinda short, kinda boring
But the end is a whirl
They were just sixteen
When the people were mean
So they didn't love themselves
And now they're gone
Headstones on a lawn
And when I was...

This song spoke to me on a very personal level. The song is about people being unable to express themselves or live better lives because of the world and society as a whole. Luckily, society is slowly getting much more progressive (Aside from some things) So people like us won't have to hide any longer.
And the part where it talks about the boys in love with one another, really shows this. They didn't confess their feelings to each other because they were afraid of what would happen afterwards, whether it be their Parents, or Society itself.
And the fact this song is about Conan's old friends, makes it even more personal.
Anyways, that was my take on it. Feel free to share your opinions, as well. -

This song about how people can't be there self in this world like he said in there was these two boy that like each other but did not take it far because they did not want to get judge same for the girls they both like each other but did not take it far. this is one of my fav parts in the song when he say the world not Oh, and I'm afraid that's just the way the world works
It ain't funny, it ain't pretty, it ain't sweet
Oh, and I'm afraid that's just the way the world works
But I think that it could work for you and me
Just wait and see
It's not the end of the story
